Favorite Character Friday: Okoye

FCF has changed! I think there are way too many great characters out there to limit them to just books so start talking about your favorite characters from movies, tv shows, AND books. Show me your favorites!

Favorite Character Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Adria's Musings & Reviews that gives readers a chance to celebrate their favorite characters, because with millions of books, tv shows, and movies out there and more coming out constantly, characters are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

How it works: Every week highlight one of your favorite characters. Be sure to include where they’re from (Book, TV Show, Movie) as well! Share the love and maybe someone will check it out and see why that character is one of your favorites! Unlike the Book Boyfriend meme (which was a great meme), your Favorite Character Fridays choice can be male or female and can be from TV or Movies!

Favorite Character: Okoye

Where Can We Meet This Character? Black Panther movie

Why is this character your favorite (Feel free to include a favorite quote or scene)? Okay I just watch this movie last weekend (Give me a break I don’t go to the theater anymore, too many rude people) and I loved it. Part of the reason was of the female characters, you know how I LOVE me some REAL female characters, strong but vulnerable, conflicted, and intelligent. Well all the women in the movie are amazing but it was Okoye, the general of the Dora Milaje that caught my attention.

As the leader of an all female elite force of bodyguards to the king of Wakanda, Okoye has a tough job. But she completely up to task. I love her strength and her dedication to her job. She’s beautiful, graceful, intelligent, brave, and one hell of a soldier but at the same time she’s loving, funny, and blunt. She isn’t just a military minded woman; she is a Wakandan woman full of pride and love who occasionally likes to tease her new king, T’Challa.

She knows her duty and she is the most respected person in Wakanda, next to the king. She is the best of the best and even the king listens to her.

Of course, she and T’Challa have been friends since they were children which is why she can get away with teasing him. She’s none to friendly with outsiders though, especially when they disrespect her king.

Okoye is also a woman in love, but when her love betrays the true king and battle lines are drawn, Okoye shows no hesitation in what she must do. She won’t be manipulated by her personal feelings and she certainly won’t show her traitorous love ANY hint of weakness. That is what I love most about her; she isn’t a silly love sick fool that puts her heart above her duty to protect her king and country from the enemy. She is a woman who can and will make the hard calls. She's an honorable woman and hands down one of my absolute favorite characters ever.
