Favorite Character Friday: Some Changes

FCF has changed! I think there are way too many great characters out there to limit them to just books so start talking about your favorite characters from movies, tv shows, AND books. Show me your favorites!

Favorite Character Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Adria's Musings & Reviews that gives readers a chance to celebrate their favorite characters, because with millions of books, tv shows, and movies out there and more coming out constantly, characters are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

How it works: Every week you pick one of your favorite characters and tell everyone WHY they're one of your favorite characters. Be sure to include where they’re from (Book, TV Show, Movie) as well! Share the love and maybe someone will read check it out and see why that character is one of your favorites! Unlike the Book Boyfriend meme (which was a great meme), your Favorite Character Fridays choice can be male or female and can be from TV or Movies!

Favorite Character: Samantha Carter

Where Can We Meet This Character? Stargate SG-1 the tv show.

Why is this character your favorite (Feel free to include a favorite quote or scene)? Sam is an incredible character to begin with. For the longest time she was the only female on the flagship team that traveled through space. SG-1 was the frontline team; the one most likely to end up in life or death situations and Sam ALWAYS handled herself like a pro. She had a brilliant mind (She has a Ph. D. in theoretical astrophysics) to go with her tough, no nonsense attitude. To me she is one of the best female characters out there. I knew she was going to be a favorite character from the first set down she delivered in the pilot episode.

Sam was smart, sassy, tough, but she also had such a good heart without making herself seem weak or easy to manipulate. Sam really got attached to the people she worked with and when some of them died she wasn’t ashamed to cry for them. Or miss them.

When the show started, Sam faced a bit of sexism from the men around her but was very quick to shut them down with her intelligence, or when that failed, she kicked some serious ass and was always someone that could be depended on to save the day. Yes, Sam was that kind of character. Jack may have been the leader of SG-1, Daniel may have been the historian, and Teal’c may have been the muscle, but Sam saved the day (and the team) on many occasions with her brilliant ideas, a few well placed bullets, or in some cases with some serious hand to hand combat.

As smart as Sam was though, she was so easy to relate to for me. From the sexism at the workplace, to downright hostility when some of those same men realized that she was not only smarter than them but just as capable at handling the military aspects of her job, to grieving the significant loses she endured over the years, those were all things I could relate to on some level. She also never put on airs because she was such a valued member of the SGC, she was just Sam. Intelligent, snarky, quirky Sam. The best kind of female character out there.

Favorite Character Quotes:
O’Neill: Another scientist? General, please.
Carter: Theoretical astrophysicist.
O’Neill: Which means?
General Hammond: Which means she’s smarter than you are, Colonel. Especially in matters related to the Stargate.
Carter: Colonel, I was studying the gate technology for two years before Daniel Jackson made it work and before you both went through. I should have gone through then.
O’Neill: This has nothing to do with you being a woman. I like women. I’ve just got a little problem with scientists.
Carter: Colonel, I logged over a hundred hours in enemy airspace during the Gulf War. Is that tough enough for you? Or do we have to arm wrestle.
