Review: Love Will Always Remember by Tracey Livesay

Excuse me while I do a happy dance because I found a new-to-me-author who hit all the important check marks for a solid romance.

Format: .mobi (A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via Edelweiss for the purpose of an honest review. )
Publisher: Avon Impulse
Release Date: August 29, 2017

An accident changed Leighton Clarke's life forever. After waking from a coma, Leighton Clarke can’t remember anything from the past six years. She’s stunned when her doctors inform her she has amnesia, something she didn’t think occurred outside of soap operas. Anxious and disoriented, the only person who elicits any feelings is Jonathan Moran, a gorgeous chef with compassionate brown eyes . . . who also happens to be her fiancé.

Jonathan isn’t her fiancé. But when his estranged brother—her real husband-to-be—asks him to step in while he’s away in London, Jonathan doesn’t think he has a choice, especially after seeing how the previously aloof Leighton now responds to him. The more time they spend together, the more Jonathan begins to fall for his brother’s fiancé, until he’s wishing the pretense were reality.

When Leighton’s memories come flooding back, can she forgive the man she’s fallen in love with or will his lie ruin the only thing that feels true?

What’s it About? When Leighton Clarke gets into an accident she wakes up to find that her memories of the past six years are gone. Terrified and confused she leans on the only person who seems familiar to her, Jonathan Moran, her fiance. Except Jonathan isn’t Leighton’s fiance, his estranged brother Thomas is but he’s asked Jonathan to step in for him while he’s away on business in London (I know right? Total ass). Jonathan doesn’t want to deceive Leighton but he can’t help but want to spend a little time with the woman who has fascinated him since the first time he saw her. Then Leighton’s memories come back and she’s hurt and angry that Jonathan lied to her about their relationship.

Overall reaction to the story? I haven’t read very many amnesia stories much less ones that were as good as Love Will Always Remember. Leighton and Jonathan aren’t the perfect heroine and her but that’s what made them so great together. The plot was easy to follow and provided a great backdrop for character growth. I enjoyed the fact that it was Leighton that had to do a lot of growing, it made the entire story very interesting. I’ve never read Tracey Livesay before but after this book I’ll definitely be wanting to read more.

Describe the hero in five words: Kind. Dedicated. Tortured. Intelligent. Stubborn.
Did you like him? Yes.
Why? Jonathan followed his dreams and became a chef and I always love characters who pursue what they want, but I especially love heroes who are suffering from unrequited attraction or love which was Jonathan’s case. He was attracted to Leighton and because he was a good guy, he felt guilty about being attracted to his brother’s fiance. At the same time though, Jonathan’s brother Thomas used that trait to guilt trip and manipulate Jonathan into pretending to be Leighton’s fiance while Thomas was away for work. I loved that Jonathan was willing to try anything to try and build a relationship with his brother but he had to grow too and realize that he couldn’t be the only one trying. I liked his growth throughout the story as well as how his feeling for Leighton clashed with his desire to have a non-toxic relationship with Thomas. All of that made Jonathan a much more interesting character, he could be strong but also gentle. Those quiet moments with Leighton were just as romantic as the moments where he couldn’t help but kiss her. I fell a little in love with Jonathan myself. Plus, he’s a chef!!

Describe the heroine in five words: Ambitious. Driven. Intelligent. Lost. Stubborn.
Did you like her? Yes.
Why? It took me awhile to realize that the “Before Accident” Leighton wasn’t a very nice person, she was cold, ambitious without consideration for others, and lonely. I loved that she was successful at her job but her motives were all wrong and she was like a robot. “After Accident” Leighton was the best though. She was Leighton before she became disillusioned by her family. I liked her humor, and admired her strength to rebuild her life when she couldn’t remember anything in the past six years. My favorite thing about her though was her growth. She wasn’t a nice person at the beginning, she wasn’t evil but she had lost sight of what was important in life and she had to sort of step outside of herself and see herself how other people saw her. Losing her memory let her be the person she really was and when she got it back, it was a wakeup call for her.

Let’s talk about the romance: Jonathan and Leighton had a confusing and forbidden attraction to one another in the beginning that had the chance to grow into something stronger (and hotter) with Jonathan posing as Leighton’s fiancé. I enjoyed the steamy scenes between them but my favorite thing about their romance was when they were just hanging out and talking, getting to know each other. I loved the way their connection was built and it had to be done in a way that their romance would survive the truth when Leighton finally remembered just who her fiance really was.

How about that supporting cast? Jonathan’s friends were wonderful. They were warm, kind, and fun. They gave Jonathan the family he didn’t have with his brother Thomas. I don’t know why Jonathan didn’t just quit on Thomas and instead enjoy the family he chose. I would love to have friends like his.
