Throwback Thursday Review: Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas

I have a special edition of Throwback Thursday Reviews this week because my sister is chiming in on this one! I recently introduced her to Lisa Kleypas and she’s fallen in love big time! She started with the Wallflowers and is currently reading the Hathaways so I asked her to give me her opinion on the first book and she was happy to do so!

This Week’s Throwback Thursday Book is: Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas

Format: .mobi (Purchased)
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Release Date: October 2, 2007
When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.

Wealthy beyond most men's dreams, Cam has tired of society's petty restrictions and longs to return to his "uncivilized" Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship―but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage?

What’s it About? The wonderfully eccentric Hathaway family finds themselves among the peerage when eldest sibling Leo inherits a title but it’s Amelia Hathaway that keeps the siblings together. While looking for her wayward brother in London she meets Cam Rohan and both are surprised by the attraction they feel for one another. One coincidence after another leads them to cross paths again and again until Cam can no longer deny that he and Amelia are meant to be but convincing Amelia is a whole new challenge not to mention that she comes with a wildly entertaining, slightly uncivilized group of siblings.

Yay or Nay? Yay!

Why? Kleypas fans will recognize Cam from Devil in Winter and who knew he could be so darn hypnotic (Apparently my sister did)? Total swoon material if you ask me. Not only is Cam sexy as hell but he’s got this pragmatic way of looking at a situation and cutting straight to the point but at the same time he’s playful and fun. Which made him a perfect addition to the unusual Hathaway family because to marry one Hathaway is to marry them all and they’re adorably mad and in desperate need of fixing.

Amelia Hathaway has shouldered the responsibility of keeping her family together all while her brother, the Viscount Ramsey is determined to drink himself into an early grave to escape his grief. Amelia is so serious and a worrywart but with good reason. She’s the only parental figure in the picture and she’s not used to having someone to help her. Cam was a perfect balance to her very serious nature and I loved the way he would gently tease and coax her out of her shell all while slowly assuming responsibility for all the Hathaways, including Leo. I loved the easy progression in their romance, it happened gradually but passionately. Getting to know the Hathaways again was a delight and being able to talk about it with my sister was a lot of fun. Speaking of, I’m sharing her thoughts on Mine Till Midnight today. Hopefully she’ll agree to doing the same with each book in the series!

I love Lisa's writing style because it just flows and she elaborates on the important things and doesn't over describe things. Like, I don't need a whole paragraph to describe a fucking tree.

I thought that Cam was sexy as hell especially when he "stole" Amelia. I found it in every sense of the word "romantic" and exciting. I love his possessiveness of her but at the same time he allows her freedom.

I love Amelia for her strength and how she takes care of her family. I love how she values her independence and doesn't want to give that up. I found myself and my husband in the two characters a lot. His desire to possess her but at the same time allowing her to be herself and loving her despite her crazy family. Plus there might have been a few passionate nights I was whisked away by my husband to secluded areas. 😉

I adore Beatrix and her youthful innocence and her kleptomania. I feel that if given the chance, my sister would have been the child pulling stray animals out of her pockets... (Thank you dearest, I appreciate you telling everyone I would have been a klepto and an animal hoarder.)

At first I didn't like Leo. I thought he was a jerk but going into his history really broke my heart. I was not expecting there to be a ghost so that made my heart race a lot.

I love how the family is basically a disaster waiting to happen but in an adorable loving way. You can't help but fall in love with them.
