Favorite Character Friday: Piers!

Favorite Character Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Adria's Romance Reviews that gives readers a chance to celebrate their favorite characters!

Why a weekly meme? Because really, with millions of books out there and more coming out every week, characters are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

How it works: Every week you pick one of your favorite characters and tell every one who it is, what book they're from and WHY they're one of your favorite characters. Be sure to include the blurb and book cover as well! Share the love and maybe someone will read that same book and see why that character is one of your favorites! Unlike the Book Boyfriend meme (which was a great meme), your Favorite Character Fridays choice can be male or female!

Favorite Character: Piers Brandon, Lord Granville

Book Title & Author: Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare

Why is this character your favorite (Feel free to include a favorite quote or scene)? Piers was one of those characters that gives people the impression of being cold, arrogant, and completely boring. He was the jilted groom who didn’t really seem to mind being jilted because he had other things to keep him busy. Then he meets someone who challenges him and lo and behold he shows that he has *gasp* a sense of humor! I do so love a hero who presents one personality to everyone but a totally different one to just few special people. Who would have known Piers was so adventurous and dare I say, fun? He had a teasing side to his personality that contrasted with his usually stoic public persona. He definitely complimented and encouraged Charlotte Highwood’s penchant for confronting him and arguing back.

“I do hope you’re well this morning, Miss Highwood.”
“I . . .” Could he sense her inner turmoil? Was it that obvious? “Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Aside from flailing about, clutching your throat just now? You were ill last evening.”
      “Oh, yes. That.”
At his mention of last evening, the breeze seemed to die. The air about her grew sluggish and warm.
“Come to mention it, you left the ball early the other night, too,” Delia said.
“It’s a concerning pattern,” he said. “Have you consulted a physician about these episodes, Miss Highwood?”
“They aren’t episodes.” Charlotte spoke through a smile that was composed of gritted teeth. “And I don’t need a doctor.”
“I will brook no argument,” he said. “If your condition recurs, causing you to miss even one more outing or dinner, I will send for my personal physician. He’s remarkably skilled with leeches and purgatives.”
Delia stifled a laugh. “How very good of you to offer, Lord Granville.”
Oh, yes. How very good of him indeed. Compelling her to appear at the dinner table under threat of leeches.

Book Cover/Blurb:
On the night of the Parkhurst ball, someone had a scandalous tryst in the library. Was it Lord Canby, with the maid, on the divan? Or Miss Fairchild, with a rake, against the wall? Perhaps the butler did it.

All Charlotte Highwood knows is this: it wasn’t her. But rumors to the contrary are buzzing. Unless she can discover the lovers’ true identity, she’ll be forced to marry Piers Brandon, Lord Granville—the coldest, most arrogantly handsome gentleman she’s ever had the misfortune to embrace. When it comes to emotion, the man hasn’t got a clue.

But as they set about finding the mystery lovers, Piers reveals a few secrets of his own. The oh-so-proper marquess can pick locks, land punches, tease with sly wit . . . and melt a woman’s knees with a single kiss. The only thing he guards more fiercely than Charlotte’s safety is the truth about his dark past.

Their passion is intense. The danger is real. Soon Charlotte’s feeling torn. Will she risk all to prove her innocence? Or surrender it to a man who’s sworn to never love?
