Review: Playing by Her Rules by Amy Andrews

Ouch, this was one of those cases where the story was good, the hero was good but the heroine? Not so much. She just frustrated me beyond belief!

Format: .mobi (A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. )

Release Date: July 11, 2016

In this grudge match, the first to score…
When style columnist Matilda Kent accidentally lets slip that she was once involved with the captain of the Sydney Smoke rugby team, she suddenly finds herself elevated to the position she’s always wanted – feature writer. The catch? She’s stuck doing a six-part series on her ex. Still, there’s no way she can turn down a promotion…or the chance to dish the dirt on the guy who so callously broke her heart.

…could win it all!
Tanner Stone wants to be involved in a feature series about as much as he wants to snap an Achilles. But the thought of seeing Tilly again is a bonus—and has him more worked up than he wants to admit. Only he’s not prepared for how different she is – all cool and professional. His Tilly is still in there, though…and he still wants her, now more than ever. All he has to do is charm her into giving him a rematch. And this time, winner takes all!

Tanner and Matilda used to date back in their youth but while Matilda was madly in love with Tanner, he had other ideas and broke her heart. Now years later Tanner is the captain of the Sydney Smoke rugby team and Matilda is a style columnist for the local newspaper. When she accidently lets it slip that she used to date Tanner, her boss makes her a feature writer with the condition that she do a six part series on Tanner, who by the way hates interviews but when he finds out Matilda will be doing the interviewing he’s completely on board. Tanner hopes that the series of interviews will give him the chance he needs to win Matilda back for good.

Hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup, Quote-tastic is a weekly Monday meme that gives readers a chance to share their favorite book quotes. So settle back, share your favorite quotes and help me add to my TBR mountain, er, have fun?

This week's quote: Comes from Blind Attraction by Eden Summers.
Yes, I am OBSESSED with this series and right now, this book is FREE on Amazon. The reason I'm thinking about this book right now is because I'm in the middle of listening to the audio version (Which is ah-mazing so far) AND the last book *sniffle* in the series is coming out soon. Naturally, I had to revisit this group of crazy characters and pick one (So difficult) of the funniest quotes from the book.

Favorite Character Friday: Tag!

Favorite Character Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Adria's Romance Reviews that gives readers a chance to celebrate their favorite characters!

Why a weekly meme? Because really, with millions of books out there and more coming out every week, characters are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

How it works: Every week you pick one of your favorite characters and tell every one who it is, what book they're from and WHY they're one of your favorite characters. Be sure to include the blurb and book cover as well! Share the love and maybe someone will read that same book and see why that character is one of your favorites! Unlike the Book Boyfriend meme (which was a great meme), your Favorite Character Fridays choice can be male or female!

Release Date: October 25, 2016

It's Tag Crane's job to be the life of the party. Traveling from one exotic locale to another is just part of running the luxurious Crane Hotel empire. But even paradise isn't perfect. Devising a new business strategy is keeping Tag up at night-and so is the Great Dane barking at all hours in the apartment below his. To muzzle the problem, Tag charges downstairs . . . right into the most beautiful, blond distraction he's ever seen.

Dog-sitting by day, bartending by night. It's not exactly the life Rachel Foster dreamed of. But when Tag Crane rushes in, all mountain-man shoulders and obscenely sexy smile, needing her help for the Crane Hotels, it's a fantasy come true. What's the harm in a fun no-strings fling? Only a fool would give her heart to a billionaire player like Tag-until suddenly the one man who can't be caught is the one flirting with forever . . .

Oh heavens I think I’m in love. No, scratch that, I KNOW I’m in love. I thought Reese Crane was my favorite but it is younger brother Tag who holds that title now. The easy going, fun loving, long haired giant was too irresistible and too lovable to resist.

So the set up is that billionaire businessman and “no strings attached” party guy Tag Crane spends his time flying from one exotic location to another as part of his job of running a family empire and having fun with the ladies on the side. But then he has to come up with a business strategy to help improve falling sales on some of the Crane hotel bars, the Great Dane barking in the apartment below his proves a distraction. So what does he do? He goes downstairs to confront the owner and instead meets dog sitter/bartender Rachel Foster who coincidentally, has experience when it comes to making businesses profitable. Tag hires Rachel to be a temporary consultant on the hotels and the two start getting to know each other and well, sparks. Lots and lots of sparks.

Blog Tour: The Legendary Lord by Valerie Bowman (Review)

Guess who finally got his happy ending? Christian Forester, Lord Berkeley!

VALERIE BOWMAN grew up in Illinois with six sisters (she's number seven) and a huge supply of historical romance novels. After a cold and snowy stint earning a degree in English with a minor in history at Smith College, she moved to Florida the first chance she got.

Valerie now lives in Jacksonville with her family including her two rascally dogs. When she's not writing, she keeps busy reading, traveling, or vacillating between watching crazy reality TV and PBS. She is also the author of the Secret Brides series, starting with Secrets of a Wedding Night, Secrets of a Runaway Bride, and Secrets of a Scandalous Marriage.

When Christian Bancroft, Viscount Berkeley, flees the stuffy ballrooms of London for his Scottish hunting lodge, the last thing he expects to find ensconced before his fire is an incredibly beautiful woman. But the plight of lovely young Sarah Highgate, who has run away from an unwanted betrothal, inspires an eminently practical exchange. He’ll safeguard her reputation with the ton while she advises him how to best attract a proper bride…

As the undisputed belle of the season, Sarah has enchanted plenty of suitors. Still, she isn’t interested in marriage, especially not to the pompous bore her father has chosen for her. But her hasty escape seems reckless now that she’s estranged from her family and has no one to count on besides Christian. Turning the luckless lord into such a catch has another unplanned consequence for Sarah: Has he run away with her heart?

I just love Valerie Bowman, seriously she just puts her own unique spin on such classic tales and she’s at it again with The Legendary Lord. Christian Bancroft, Viscount Berkeley has failed yet again to find a bride and flees to his cottage in Scotland where he finds Sarah Highgate living in his cottage. She’s running away too, and she’s so desperate to avoid the marriage her father arranged for her that she accepts a deal from Christian: He’ll protect her reputation if she teaches him how to catch a proper bride.

But Alexis needs someone fun, and Logan’s all business, all the time—except when a late night at the office ends with an unexpected kiss that leaves the usually cool and together Alexis reeling.

Fridays Are Non-Fiction Days Review: Mission: Jimmy Stewart and the Fight for Europe by Robert Matzen

Aside from romance novels, I also enjoy non-fiction, specifically biographies, memoirs, and historical accounts so I thought I'd set aside the occasional Friday for those reviews!

Format: .mobi (A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. )
Publisher: GoodKnight Books
Release Date: October 24, 2016

In March 1941, Jimmy Stewart, America’s boy next door and recent Academy Award winner, left fame and fortune behind and joined the United States Army Air Corps to fulfill his family mission and serve his country. He rose from private to colonel and participated in 20 often-brutal World War II combat missions over Germany and France. In mere months the war took away his boyish looks as he faced near-death experiences and the loss of men under his command. The war finally won, he returned home with millions of other veterans to face an uncertain future, suffering what we now know as PTSD. Younger stars like Gregory Peck were now getting roles that might have been Stewart’s, and he didn’t know if he would ever work in Hollywood again. Then came It’s a Wonderful Life.

For the next half century, Stewart refused to discuss his combat experiences and took the story of his service to the grave. Mission presents the first in-depth look at Stewart’s life as a Squadron Commander in the skies over Germany, and, his return to Hollywood the changed man who embarked on production of America’s most beloved holiday classic.

Author Robert Matzen sifted through thousands of Air Force combat reports and the Stewart personnel files; interviewed surviving aviators who flew with Stewart; visited the James Stewart Papers at Brigham Young University; flew in the cockpits of the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator; and walked the earth of air bases in England used by Stewart in his combat missions of 1943-45. What emerges in Mission is the story of a Jimmy Stewart you never knew until now, a story more fantastic than any he brought to the screen.

Most people know who Jimmy Stewart was. He was a talented actor whose career spanned almost 60 years and gave moviegoers some of the most well loved and recognized movies and characters of all time. Who doesn’t know the story of George Bailey from It’s a Wonderful Life? That’s a Christmas classic! I personally loved him as Mike Connor from The Philadelphia Story and Tony Kirby in You Can’t Take it With You. However, Stewart was also a real life war hero and served proudly in the Air Force for a number of tours. He adamantly refused to discuss his time in the military and up until now that part of the actor’s life remained a mystery.

Tasty Book Tour: A Fool For You by Katee Robert (Review + Giveaway)

The final book in Katee Robert’s Foolproof Love series was the emotional one of the series and it had every reason to be the best of the three.

About Katee:
New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Katee Robert learned to tell her stories at her grandpa’s knee.

She found romance novels at the age of twelve and they changed her life.

When not writing sexy contemporary and romantic suspense, she spends her time playing imaginary games with her children, driving her husband batty with what-if questions, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

It’s been thirteen years since Hope Moore left Devil’s Falls, land of sexy cowboys and bad memories. Back for the weekend, she has no intention of seeing the man she never got over…or the two of them getting down and dirty. It’s just a belated goodbye, right? No harm, no foul.

Until six weeks later, when her pregnancy test comes back positive…

Daniel Rodriguez hasn’t forgiven himself for how things went down with Hope all those years ago. He knows she’s better off without him, but when she shows up on his doorstep, panicking because she’s pregnant with his baby, he can’t help seeing it as a chance to make up for the past.

Too bad Hope has no intention of going along with his plans.

The last book in the Foolproof Love series just happens to be the most emotional one of the series and *cough* sorry Aubry and Quinn*cough* my favorite. So Hope Daniels hasn’t been back in Devil’s Falls for 13 years. Not since the night her life changed drastically. When she comes back for the weekend she meets up with her former boyfriend Daniel and the two spend the night together and Hope thinks that’s the end of that. Until she finds out she’s pregnant and is forced to confront Daniel and the past tragedy that they both share. In the meantime Daniel is fighting his guilt over what happened to Hope all those years ago and when she comes to him with the news that they’re going to be parents, he sees it as a chance to make up for what he’s done. Except Hope doesn’t want a man who sees her and their baby as a sort of atonement for imagined wrongs.
