Blog Tour: Entangled Scorched Imprint Naima Simone Interview (+ Giveaway)

The week is almost over! Hang in there guys! In the meantime, you all know how much I LOVE the books from Entangled Publishing, especially their Brazen line right? Well did you know that they’re launching a new imprint that features hotter than hot romances? That’s right! Some of your favorite authors will also be writing for Entangled’s newest imprint… SCORCHED! Can you believe it? A line of romances that are HOTTER than Brazen? Hold on to your hormones loves; I think we’re in for some wild rides!

Today I have Naima Simone answering a few questions for me. Naima is one of the authors who will be writing for Scorched, starting with book one of The Lick Series. Yeah, you read that right, The Lick Series. Sounds delicious already! But seriously, if you guys ever have the chance to interview Naima, she’s a hoot and gives really great answers.

Adria: Hi Naima! Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for me!
Naima: Of course! Thank you so much for letting me visit! I’ll promise to throttle back on the bad words for the occasion. LOL!

Adria: First, out of sheer curiosity, can you tell me how your name is pronounced? It’s such a unique name to me so I don’t want to be mispronouncing it in my head or say if I happen to be chatting up a fellow romance novel enthusiast (I’m constantly having to correct people when they say my name because they almost always pronounce it like a shortened form of the name Adrian, which is not how I say it).
Naima: Oh snap! *raising hand* I’m so guilty, Adria! I said it the same way! How do you pronounce your name? I’m like a Name Hoarder. LOL! I love them, and adore finding unique ones. Aaaand I totally just skipped your question about mine. ☺ It’s pronounced Ni-e-muh. Long “i” and “e.” My father named me after a John Coltrane song. And he wanted to name my daughter “Trane,” which is another story… *snicker*

Adria: See, I was TOTALLY pronouncing YOUR name wrong so we’re even there! You have such a unique name! I love collecting names myself but I am going to confess that Adria isn’t my given name, it’s a shortened form of my middle name, Adriana just pronounced like a Hispanic person would say it. I’m getting carried away here, to answer your question about my name; the “A” is a short “A” sound like when you say “Apple” or the “A” in “Cat.” Phonetically it’s “æ-dree-ə.” Can you tell I’ve had to explain this often? Lol.

Adria: Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get down to business! You are the author of several series, including the Guarding Her Body series that I must say are pretty steamy so why the decision to write for Entangled’s new Scorched imprint which promises to kick up the heat level to nuclear?

Naima: Yeeeaaaah, I’m letting my freak flag fly with Scorched. LOL! But, actually my first several books were erotic romances. So it was really cool writing it again. And plus, erotic romance is just fun. Not that the other books aren’t, don’t get me wrong! But it’s something about throwing that bedroom door not just open, but off the hinges that’s freeing. Like, bring on every fantasy, every dirty word, every position—they’re all fair game. And then add in two people falling in love along the way? Shoooot, I’m in!

Adria: Your book with Scorched is called Only for a Night, can you tell me a little bit about it? What makes it different from your other books, aside from the heat level?
Naima: I sure can tell you about it. Only for a Night—well, the whole Lick series—revolves around an aphrodisiac club called Lick. Rion Ward, ex-Irish mob and one of the club owners, is shocked when Harper Shaw, the good girl from his past, walks into Lick. He’s further shocked when she demands he give her what she’s been missing all these years—hot, dirty, black-out-from-orgasms sex. For Rion, Harper is the woman he’s never forgotten and has always wanted. She’s also the only woman to tear his heart from his chest. So he’ll give in to Harper’s demand, but he has a stipulation of his own: one night to fulfill her every desire, passion and fantasy. Afterwards, they walk away from one another forever.

Actually, I don’t think Only for a Night is different from my other books other than the length—it’s a novella—and the heat level. There’s still a hero and heroine I hope the readers become invested in, a romance that brings healing and forgiveness, a happily-ever-after that will make readers cheer and do a booty-chair dance. I hope I still brought all of that and the heat…as well as another person in the bedroom… ☺

Adria: Inspiration comes in all forms and some authors admit that aside from their own life experiences, they sometimes draw inspiration from things they witness in their every day lives. Have you ever witnessed something so funny/interesting/intense that you just had to use in a book and can you share it?
Naima: Something happened to me about two months ago that I swear I’m using in a book! It’s too unbelievable not to! My father and I were at the DMV—no, that’s not the scary part. *snicker*So, just as we stepped to the front of the line, a man walked in, skipped everyone and went up to the teller. He said to her, "Help me. I’ve been shot". He sounded so calm, no one really reacted. But then he lifted his sweatshirt and blood was pouring from his lower back.

The sheriffs ran in and sat him down about three feet in front of us. So close I could see another bullet hole in his shoulder. The man had been shot twice! Now, seeing as how I’m an ID Addict *cough* I noticed the burned edges around the hole, so I told my father the gun had to be in very close contact to cause that. He just looked at me like, Really? But I know my GSWs! Anyhoo, I digress. Come to find out, a friend had shot him, and he’d run across the street into the DMV office for help. I’ve overheard a woman advising her friend to cheat on her husband while I was at the dentist’s office, but this? Wow! So using it!
Adria: Wow, that really is something! I don't know how you kept your calm through it all! If that had been me well 1.) I would have had an anxiety attack waiting for the shooter to follow him in and 2.) I most likely would have had my mom with me and SHE would have panicked. Lol

Adria: Rion Ward and Harper Shaw are brand new characters so readers are barely getting the chance to get to know them but what is one thing that we readers would be surprised to learn about either of them?
Naima: Oooh, I love this question. Okay, so readers know—or will find out—that Rion is a huge Edgar Allan Poe fan. His goal is to one day publish a book about his life and works, but tell it through photography. The reader will also learn in Only for a Night, that Rion’s a photographer, too... ☺

Adria: Part of the editing process is that unfortunately scenes get cut or need to be re-written. Is there a scene from any of your books that you wish had made the cut? Can you share it?
Naima: Hah! If my editor is reading this she’s probably falling out of her chair laughing. I’m one of those authors that constantly have to add scenes to the books. As a matter-of-fact, while working on Book 2 of the Lick series, I was almost to the end of my first round of edits when I saw those dreaded words: I really think we need to see this. I was like, #$@%$&!! I was so close! LOL!! Seriously, though, she always ends up being right.

Actually, there was a scene in Secrets and Sins: Raphael that didn’t make it into the book, but was added as an extra at the end of the print book. It was a scene between Raphael and his father. Raphael, who hadn’t seen his father in years because he’d been in jail, went to tell his father that he forgave him for leaving the family and about the baby he and Greer had on the way. In hindsight, I did agree it slowed the pacing of the book down, but I loved it. And was glad I got to add it to the print copy of the book!

Adria: What goes through your mind when you start/finish a book and is there a certain setting you feel most productive in? Do you need absolute quiet? A little music? Or complete chaos?
Naima: The same feeling rushes through me when I start and finish a book—panic. Is this book going to be good? Will readers like this one? Oh Lord, can I finish another book? Oh God, why is this book taking so loooong? LOL! And to finish a book I need to be sequestered! Seriously, shut me in with coffee, food, a good playlist, and a TV marathon I’ve seen over and over again (Columbo!), and you’ll know I’m done when I emerge grinning and stinking. ☺

Adria: Last question, what are you currently working on now?
Naima: I’m currently writing book 3 in the Lick series! It’s Killian’s book, and I’m both excited and nervous about writing his and Gabriella’s story. There’s a lot of history between them—betrayal, lies, pain, and of course, combustible lust! Hee-hee!

Adria: Thank you so much Naima for your time and have a wonderful day!
Naima: Thank you! I’ve had fun!

Only for a Night sounds like the kind of read that just defines those hot summer nights so don’t forget to pick up your copy today!

About Naima Simone:

Naima Simone’s love of romance was first stirred by Johanna Lindsey, Sandra Brown and Linda Howard many years ago. Well not that many. She is only eighteen…ish. Though her first attempt at a romance novel starring Ralph Tresvant from New Edition never saw the light of day, her love of romance, reading and writing has endured. Published since 2009, she spends her days—and nights— creating stories of unique men and women who experience the first bites of desire, the dizzying heights of passion, and the tender, healing heat of love.

She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.

About Only for a Night

Rion Ward fought hard to be free of the Irish mob life. Now, as the co-owner of Boston’s hottest aphrodisiac club, he’s traded crime for the ultimate sexual fantasy. But when the “good girl” from his past walks through Lick’s doors, he discovers that his unconsummated hunger for her never abated.

Widowed for two years from a man who felt that anything besides the missionary position was dirty, Harper Shaw is ready to move on. The first step to feeling alive again is sex. Hot, dirty, black-out-from-orgasm sex. And who better to provide it than the brooding, sexy, tatted bad boy-turned-man she’s known for years?

Rion, however, has one stipulation: He’ll be hers only for one night. One night to explore her every fantasy. One night to push her limits. One night to introduce her to a passion that makes both doubt if it will be enough…
