Favorite Character Friday: Charming AND Ruthless!

Favorite Character Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Adria's Romance Reviews that gives readers a chance to celebrate their favorite characters!

Why a weekly meme? Because really, with millions of books out there and more coming out every week, characters are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

How it works: Every week you pick one of your favorite characters and tell every one who it is, what book they're from and WHY they're one of your favorite characters. Be sure to include the blurb and book cover as well! Share the love and maybe someone will read that same book and see why that character is one of your favorites! Unlike the Book Boyfriend meme (which was a great meme), your Favorite Character Fridays choice can be male or female!

Favorite Character: “Charming” Mickey O’Connor

Book Title & Author: Scandalous Desires by Elizabeth Hoyt

Why is this character your favorite (Feel free to include a favorite quote or scene)? Who doesn’t love a rascal pirate? Long before I had a thing for spies it was my love of pirates that had me sitting up and taking notice of this particular character.

“Charming” Mickey isn’t just a pirate because other people say he is, he’s a pirate because he came from the gutter, survived untold horrors and made a name for himself as one of the most ruthless river pirates in the area. If he wants something he simply takes it and consequences be damned. It’s that attitude that made him a very unlikable character early on in the Maiden Lane series. He ruins a good woman’s reputation along with her marriage by keeping her overnight with him. Heck, in the beginning of the book, Mickey isn’t someone you would consider hero material. He’s cruel, selfish and obnoxious but it’s mostly an act.

Though he tries to pretend otherwise, Mickey O’Connor has a heart and it’s a fragile one. It was his growth and gradual change from a symbol of fear and arrogance to a man lost in love and unsure of himself. It was terribly romantic as well as highly erotic. Or maybe that’s just me because I have a thing for ruthless pirates.

Book Cover/Blurb:
River pirate "Charming" Mickey O'Connor has lifted himself from the depths of the slums to be the king of St. Giles. Anything he wants he gets-with one exception. Silence Hollingbrook has been haunting his dreams ever since she spent a single night in his bed.

Once Silence was willing to sacrifice anything to save the man she loved. Now a widow, she's finally found peace when Charming Mickey comes storming back into her life with an offer she can't refuse. But this time she won't be the only one paying the price for his sins.

When his past comes back to torment him, Mickey must keep Silence safe from a merciless enemy, while wrestling with the delicious hold this widow has on his heart. And in the face of mounting danger, both will have to surrender to something even more terrifying . . . true love.
