Grandmother, grandmother, who shall it be
Who shall it be who will marry me?
Duke, Earl, a powerful marquess?
When my heart is given to Fyclan Morris…

In New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell's new novella, beautiful Jennifer Tarleton has no lack of noble suitors, but the only man who captures her attention is the one her father will never let her marry: Fyclan Morris. He's a brash adventurer, witty, courageous…and Irish! Even worse, her father blames her for their reversal of fortune…

And it's a fortune—or rather, his grandmother the fortune teller—who foretold that Fyclan would meet "the one,", a love prophesied in the stars. He vows nothing will stand in the way of making Jennifer his bride, but is the price too high? Or is a thing called love worth every challenge?

Jennifer Tarleton can have her pick of any nobleman she wants, in fact, her father’s gaming debts insist that she pick the wealthiest of them all. Resigned to her fate, Jennifer retreats into

Irishman Fyclan Morris has been waiting for years for his grandmother’s prophesy to come true. When he lays eyes on Jennifer, he knows she’s “the one” his grandmother told him about but with so many obstacles in their way, Fyclan and Jennifer have little time to find a way to be together.

I’m not really a fan of “Insta-Love” no matter what the explanation. In A Little Thing Called Love Fyclan and Jennifer barely breathe a full sentence to one another before they’re madly in love and while it might have been explained by way of a gypsy fortune, I didn’t buy it. I want to see a relationship between strangers grow and evolve into love, otherwise, it doesn’t ring true and it puts me at a disadvantage when it comes to connecting with the characters as a couple.

Separately Fyclan and Jennifer were such charming characters. Who wouldn’t love Jennifer who is intelligent and a true bookworm?! This girl, who loved the smell of pages, enjoyed the journeys that books take a reader on, and the knowledge to be gained from them enchanted and engaged me from the moment she talked about the life saving power of books.

And Fyclan! Not only did he have the same affection for reading and books but an admiration and desire for a woman who saw books the same way he did. I swear, if a man could have swooned, it would have been Fyclan when he realized Jennifer shared his love of books and reading. Instead I was the one who swooned over Fyclan.

A Little Thing Called Love sets up a brand new series by Cathy Maxwell and the author makes sure that both Fyclan and Jennifer are characters worth caring about. Up until now, I had never read anything by Maxwell but if this prequel novella is anything to go by, I am certainly going to want to read the upcoming first full length novel in this series.

Final Verdict: This could turn out to be a very interesting series.
