Review: Hold Me Until Midnight by Christina Phillips

Thank you Entangled Brazen and Christina Phillips for this one! I'm seriously in love with the Grayson brothers!

Format: .mobi (A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. )
Publisher: Entangled - Brazen
Release Date: June 9, 2015

Every good girl loves a very bad boy...

Scarlett Ashford needs a date for her father's wedding. Only she doesn't just need a guy in a suit-she needs a bodyguard. The only problem is that Jackson Grayson is big and gorgeous and way too sexy. So much so that Scarlett's tempted to let this hot bad boy ruin her oh-so-good reputation...

Jackson doesn't do relationships and he certainly doesn't sleep with clients. Yet he can't fight their inconvenient attraction, or how badly he wants Scarlett's warm and wicked curves against his body. He wants her. Now. Even if it's just for one night, and even if walking away the next morning isn't as easy as he thought.

Besides, one hot and incredibly intense night between a bad boy and a pampered princess could never turn into something real...could it?

Scarlett Ashford needs more than just a date for her father’s upcoming wedding; she needs someone intimidating, someone who isn’t afraid to stand up to the people in her rich and snobby world. Someone like Jackson Grayson.

Jackson and his brothers have worked hard to climb up from where they used to be but they still haven’t forgotten their roots. Just because Jackson doesn’t think much of Scarlett or her kind doesn’t mean he won’t take their money. Curiosity plays a bigger part than he’s willing to admit though since Scarlett is more than what she appears to be. Jackson breaks his company’s no sleeping with clients rule for Scarlett but soon finds himself way in over his head!

Hold Me Until Midnight had exactly what I was looking for: A romance between two people who on the surface appear to be total opposites.

Jackson may have looked the part of a sexy ruffian but at heart he was a total softie and who doesn’t love that? I know I loved his gruff exterior and complete befuddled state after spending time with Scarlett. Author Christina Phillips may have given him the looks of Norse gods (The body of Thor and Loki’s dark hair to be precise, yum!) but Jackson wasn’t perfect. He had these preconceived ideas of Scarlett when he first met her but they were blown out of the water and then he just didn’t know what to do with the attraction that was quickly turning into affection and respect. Poor guy, apparently being wrong wasn’t something he was good at.

In the beginning of the book, Scarlett needs a date to her father’s wedding in order to scare a persistent suitor off. She seemed like a tough woman who didn’t fall into the typical rich girl category yet she couldn’t stand up to an annoying, manipulative creep who kept harassing her? I felt like she needed a bit more backbone and more of a mean streak when it came to unwanted advances. Scarlett tended to hide behind Jackson and lose her power of speech whenever her unwanted suitor was around. The woman needed to empower herself and teach that slimy jerk exactly why he should have taken “no” for an answer. Still though, I liked Scarlett. I liked that she didn’t shy away from Jackson like a virginal miss. He may have intimidated her with his over the top sexiness but that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to go after him like the last chocolate bar on the highest shelf in the store. She wasn’t afraid of hard work or getting her hands dirty.

Quick and to the point, Hold Me Until Midnight also made room for Jackson’s brothers Alex and Cooper and the secretary of their security business Ella. I’m so hoping that the author has books planned for these three because they were interesting, particularly Ella. She’s known the three brothers for years and it was obvious she didn’t take their crap or seem intimidated by them. I didn’t feel like the story was dragged down by these extra characters, in fact they added a bit more information to the Grayson brother’s background because Jackson didn’t share more than the basics to be honest. I’m curious to know more about them.

Final Verdict: While I wait for the next book I think I’ll re-read this one. It’s not a hardship, I promise!
