Review: He's No Prince Charming by Elle Daniels

Format: .epub (provided by publisher in exchange for an honest review)
Publisher: Forever (Grand Central Publishing)
Release Date: October 28, 2014

A wounded beast . . .

It took Marcus Bradley forever to find a suitable bride. And then he lost her-all because some meddling matchmaker with a crazy notion about "true love" helped her elope with another man. Now, to save his sister from a terrible marriage alliance, he needs a replacement-an heiress to be exact . . . and he knows just the woman to help him find one.

A spirited beauty . . .

Danielle Strafford believes everyone deserves a fairytale ending-even the monstrously scarred and notoriously brooding Marquis of Fleetwood. Not that he's left her a choice. If she doesn't help him secure a wife-by any means necessary-he'll reveal her scandalous secrets.

A passion that will consume them both

The more time Marcus spends with Danielle, the less interested he is in any other woman. But the Beast must do the impossible: keep from losing his heart to a Beauty he is destined to lose.

The hero may have had a reputation for not being very charming but both he and this book were more than what appeared on the surface!

First of all, I have to send major thanks to Cameron from What the Cat Read because she’s the one who recommended this book to me.

He’s No Prince Charming is a light hearted take on Beauty and the Beast and while it doesn’t always work, in this case it does.

Marcus Bradley, the Marquis of Fleetwood has just lost his bride to an elopement with another man and all because of a meddling female who believes everyone should marry “in love.” Desperate to save his sister from a dangerous engagement, Marcus needs an heiress to marry immediately. Furious at the interference and intrigued by matchmaker Danielle Strafford, Marcus forces her to help him secure another bride.

As much as he blusters and tries to intimidate her, Danielle isn’t fooled one bit into believing the scarred and somewhat cranky Marquis is the beast everyone claims he is. Though he doesn’t leave her a choice but to help him in his quest, Danielle knows there’s a good and kind man underneath the entire broody, cold exterior. And as Marcus and Danielle spend more and more time together; they start to fall in love, which couldn’t be a worse situation as Marcus needs an heiress, not a scandalous matchmaker.

I couldn’t believe that He’s No Prince Charming was a debut novel! It was such a great story and by that I mean it not only gave its own spin to an already established theme in historical romance, but it made me laugh out loud at the sarcastic humor between Marcus and Danielle.

For me, the best part of He’s No Prince Charming was the romance. Marcus and Danielle start off as strangers and adversaries yet their romance seemed so natural. It was so effortless the way the slid from a budding friendship into a romantic relationship, even when they didn’t know that’s what was happening. Marcus and Danielle looked after one another along their journey and I found it endearing and terribly romantic.

Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. With two strong willed, stubborn characters there are bound to be disagreements and Marcus and Danielle certainly had their moments where I felt like I was watching a tennis match with all the back and forth between them. Their arguments were far from annoying though, with her quick mind and snarky attitude, Danielle was more than a handful for Marcus who was used to scaring people into submission. Every time Marcus tried to verbally subdue Danielle, he was met with playful banter and sarcastic remarks. It was such fun watching Danielle bait Marcus as well. She wanted to draw him out of his shell and self imposed exile and she knew that coddling him wasn’t going to work so she essentially teased and challenged him until he started to show more of who he really was. It was a creative way to handle such a brooding man so big props to Danielle.

Author Elle Daniels did a marvelous job with; I cannot believe I’m saying this, her debut novel. He’s No Prince Charming is something I would have expected from a seasoned author! I’m definitely putting this author on my “Watch List.”

Final Verdict: Add this one to your TBR list, especially if you like laugh out loud moments combined with a tender yet passionate romance.
