Author! Author! Interview With: Cara Connelly!

I had the chance to have a quick Q & A session with the lovely Cara Connelly, author of The Wedding Vow (My tour stop with my review can be found here) and she was just as sweet answering my questions as I thought she'd be!

About Cara Connelly:

Cara Connelly is an award-winning author of contemporary romances. Her smart and sexy stories have won high praise, earning Cara several awards including the Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart, the Valley Forge Romance Writers’ Sheila, and the Music City Romance Writers’ Melody of Love.

Cara, who lives in rural upstate New York, works as appellate court attorney when she’s not crafting steamy novels of love and romance.

Find Cara:

Adria: Hi Cara! Welcome to the blog, I’m so happy to be helping out on your blog tour for The Wedding Vow. I hope you’re okay with nosy animals, because my constant companion is sitting in on this quick Q&A.

Cara: Aw, what a cutie! I’m very okay with nosy animals – I’ve got a couple of my own sitting in on it too.

Adria: I’m a new fan of yours, The Wedding Vow was not was I was expecting, in a good way. For those who aren’t familiar with it, can you tell them what it’s about?
Cara: The Wedding Vow is an enemies-to-lovers story about billionaire art thief Adam LeCroix and Maddie St. Clair, the ex-prosecutor who nearly brought him down. Five years after her defeat, Maddie's still smarting over it when Adam strolls into her law firm and coerces her into going to work for him. But what started out as revenge for him, and humiliation for her, gets complicated when these two strong people who are used to being in control of everything find themselves falling in love. They both have dark secrets and serious baggage. And they also have deep wounds which they never expected to reveal, much less to help each other heal. They fight it every step of the way!

Adria: Where did the inspiration for Adam and Maddie come from? They’re such interesting characters with hidden aspects to their personalities.
Cara: I wish I could tell you where they came from, but my characters have a way of showing up when and where they choose, and I don’t seem to have much control over it. Maddie first appeared in The Wedding Favor, and I loved her on sight. She’s feisty and smart and cocky, but under it all, she’s a hot mess. I knew I had to write her story. I had no idea Adam was part of it until he walked onto the page, fully formed, suave and gorgeous, with a knot of pain in his gut that he’s not even aware of. He can be difficult and controlling, but I love him too. And Maddie's more than a match for him.

Adria: Romance is such a popular yet under appreciated genre in my opinion. What do you think it is about romance novels that keep readers coming back for more?
Cara: We believe in the power of love. Romance novels, far from breeding unrealistic expectations, remind us that love can turn up in the most unexpected places with the most unexpected people. That’s why they’re addictive!

Adria: When you’re writing, do you prefer complete silence or can you work in any environment?
Cara: In general, I like peace and quiet. Sometimes, especially when I’m under deadline pressure, I prefer to listen to instrumental music, like piano. It seems to quiet the part of my mind that gets distracted, so I can sink into the story. I can NOT work with the TV on, or with commotion in the house. I get very cranky. :)

Adria: I’m assuming you have spare time when I ask this but what romance authors do you enjoy reading for fun?
Cara: Susan Elizabeth Phillips – I can read her books over and over again. Jill Shalvis, Kristan Higgins, Brenda Novak, JD Robb, Judith McNaught. I wish I had more time to explore new authors, but I’m usually reading in bits and snatches these days, so when I have a free moment I tend to reach for the tried and true. One of these days I’ll get my writing routine under control so I’ll have more time to read!

Adria: What are you working on now?
Cara: I just turned The Wedding Band over to my editor – it’s a novel about a media-hating movie star who falls for an undercover reporter. Lots of fun! And I’m about 3000 words into The Wedding Gift, a novella about a woman who has a gift for setting her friends up with the guys they end up marrying, but she can’t find a guy for herself.

Adria: Thank you for your time Cara I really appreciate it. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Cara: Thank you so much for having me on the blog today! I had fun answering your questions. Give that adorable pup a kiss on the nose for me, okay?

Adria: Will do Cara, he loves attention!
