Sweet Revenge Launch Day Blitz: Q&A with Author Rebecca Zanetti, Excerpt + Giveaway!

I'm such a huge fan of Rebecca Zanetti's Sin Brothers series and I'm beyond thrilled to not only take part in celebrating the release of Sweet Revenge in print but to be able to chat with Rebecca herself! Don't forget to leave a comment and enter the giveaway, you can win all three Sin Brothers books! RAWR!

Thanks to Grand Central Publishing for inviting me to participate!

About Rebecca:
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti has worked as an art curator, Senate aide, lawyer, college professor, and a hearing examiner - only to culminate it all in stories about Alpha males and the women who claim them. She is a member of RWA, has won awards for her works throughout the industry, and has a journalism degree with a poly sci emphasis from Pepperdine University as well as a Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho.

Growing up amid the glorious backdrops and winter wonderlands of the Pacific Northwest has given Rebecca fantastic scenery and adventures to weave into her stories. She resides in the wild north with her husband, children, and extended family who inspire her every day-or at the very least give her plenty of characters to write about.

Find Rebecca on:

Adria: Hi Rebecca! Welcome to my tiny little space on the internet! I hope you don’t mind fur-children, I have a houseful, including this nosey guy:
Cooper, my little Yorkiepoo (At least I think he's a "poo")

Rebecca: No problem! I have a household, including this guy, who knows he’s not supposed to be on the deck furniture:

Adria: OMG! He's gorgeous Rebecca! I LOVE big dogs, aside from little Cooper I have Mr. Pud who is a good 60lbs of love.

Adria: I actually have to thank Anna over at Herding Cats and Burning Soup for bringing this series to my attention; she had posted the cover for Forgotten Sins as part of a book spotlight and I just fell in love with it. After Googling you and your books, I noticed that Sweet Revenge was available for review on NetGalley and well, the rest is history. I even broke my “Don’t read a series out of order” rule and I’m so glad I did!
Rebecca: LOL! I’m glad you enjoyed the books, and please thank Anna for me!
Adria: I'll definitely be sure to nag, er, tag her on Facebook or Twitter. I owe her BIG! Lol.

Adria: For anyone not familiar with your books, can you tell them what Sweet Revenge is about?
Rebecca: SWEET REVENGE is the second book in the series, and it features Matt Dean, the oldest brother of four. The boys were created in test tubes and raised by a military organization to be the ultimate soldiers and deadly killers. They stuck together as brothers and escaped five years ago. Unfortunately, there are kill chips implanted next to their spines that are about to detonate, so they need to go back and find the right computer program and codes to save their lives…while finding love on the way. I mean, what ultra-hot soldier wouldn’t need to find love while battling his deadliest enemy? ☺

Adria: Where did you get the inspiration for the Sin Brothers series?
Rebecca: I like romantic suspense, and I like paranormal, so I kind of combined the two with these genetically enhanced super soldiers. Plus, I enjoy strong family ties between siblings as well as a good fight with a really evil bad guy…and the series just came together from those elements. The relationships between the brothers are what make this series special to fans, I think.

Adria: What do you think makes Matt such a sexy hero (I know my reasons ☺) and what makes Laney such an awesome heroine?
Rebecca: I think Matt is sexy because he’s wounded and would do anything (and has) to protect the few people in this world that he cares about. He’s kind of a take- charge Alpha male, but he has a genuine and bewildering (to him) sweet side. Laney is a fun heroine because she’s brilliant, slightly dorky, and determined. There’s a strength in her she’s needed to survive her life, and when she turns that on Matt to get to know him and even heal him a little bit, it’s nice to watch.

Adria: What kind of research went into the Gray brother’s backgrounds, their genetic makeup and special abilities? I imagine there might have been some interesting searches in the name of research.
Rebecca: LOL! I have to admit, I do wonder if the NSA has a watch on my computer. I’ve researched everything from genetics to quantum physics to knife fighting for this series. I’ve also spoken to a few doctors about the kill chips near the spines, and I took a whole lot of license in making that possible. But to me, most things are possible, you know?

Adria: One of the many things I love about Sweet Revenge (and the rest of the series) is that you really know how to keep the suspense and mystery from going stale. Quite a few times I thought I had everything figured out but then there was a twist in the plot that had me going “Well hell, I didn’t see that coming.” How do you keep readers from getting too comfortable with the storyline?
Rebecca: You know, part of the fun in writing romantic suspense is creating those twist and turns. To be honest, sometimes I’ll be typing, and something will end up on the page that I never planned…and that’s one of the fun things about being a writer. It’s a fine line, though. You can never be obvious, but you have to leave enough breadcrumbs so you haven’t created something out of the blue. It’s a balancing act, but when it works, it’s such a good feeling.

Adria: As of right now there are three books (with a fourth coming in 2015) in the Sin Brothers series, any chance you’ll continue after that (Please be aware that I might cry if the answer is no)?
Rebecca: Great question, and I’d never want to make you cry. ☺ I’m in Las Vegas right now, and as soon as I win my money back from last night, I’m going to draft up the proposal for the next three Sin Brothers books. Well, even if I don’t win my money back, I’ll be working on it. I’m reaaally excited about it!
Adria: *let's out a squeal of delight* I will anxiously await any and all news on the series!

Adria: Can you tell me what you’re working on now?
Rebecca: Right now we’re gearing up for the print release of SWEET REVENGE, and that involves some really fun q & a’s like this one, some marketing blurbs, and a fun Facebook series. I also just finished TOTAL SURRENDER, which is book 4 in the series, and I should be seeing edits on that any day. So it’s Sin Brothers all the way right now. ☺

Adria: Any chance you know a real life Matt and can ship him to me via USPS? Kidding. Maybe. Probably not.
Rebecca: LOL! It’d be fun to try and put Matt Dean in a shipping box, right? He’d probably take over USPS and use it to fight the commander. Now that I think of it, USPS would be an incredible asset with the trucks, planes, and many of the retired military folks who work there. Hmmmm. In real life, Big Tone is as close to Matt as I know of a real person…and I’m keeping him.
Adria: *sigh* I guess I have to go searching for my own Matt Dean then. Lol.

Adria: Thank you Rebecca for taking the time to chat with me, is there anything else you’d like to add?
Rebecca: Just a quick thank you for having me here today, and a thank you to the fans of the series who have written amazing reviews and fun emails to me. The emails usually ask about the youngest brother, Jory. You find out about his fate in BLIND FAITH, and I think you’ll like it. Have a wonderful day, and give those fur children a hug for me.
Adria: Well now you've done it, you've won yourself five furry fans Rebecca!

I hope you all enjoyed my quick Q&A with Rebecca and if you're curious, I previously reviewed Sweet Revenge HERE.

Excerpt from Sweet Revenge:
“You know you work for me, right?”
“Listen, lady”—red spiraled across his high cheekbones—“you hired me to bounce problems, which I can’t do if your sweet ass is in the way.”
Was that a fact? She took a deep breath and settled on the only solution other than kicking him in the shin. “You’re fired.”
Both of his eyebrows shot up. “Excuse me?”
Satisfaction tilted her chin. Not much probably surprised Matt Dean. “You’re fired.” As an exit line, it nailed the situation. Unfortunately, the toned soldier stood between her and the door. Just who the hell did he think he was? “Now move your sweet ass.”
He slipped his hands into his pockets and leaned back against the door. As a move, it was intimidating. “Why am I fired?”
“You leave much to be desired as an employee.” She eyed him, assessing the situation. Nope. The guy might be commanding, but she wasn’t scared. He wouldn’t hurt her. “All you’ve done since being hired is flirt with customers, order me around, and kiss me.”
His chin lowered. “Which of those items is pissing you off the most?”
She narrowed her eyes as heat spiraled through her abdomen. “You can flirt with any dumb bimbo you want, and frankly, the kisses were all right. But ordering me around? Not a chance.”
“All right? The kisses were all right?”
Figured the man would focus on that. She forced herself to lift a shoulder. “Eh.”
His cheek creased, and his eyes warmed. “Maybe we should try again, then. See if I can do better.”
“No.” The spit in her mouth dried up. She hadn’t meant to challenge him… had she? “I don’t, ah, kiss fired employees.”
“So that leaves Smitty.” Matt grinned.
“Very funny.” The tension slowly drained from her muscles in response to his instant humor.
He exhaled slowly. “Listen, I’m sorry if I scared you.”
     “You didn’t.”
“I’m also sorry if I was too bossy.” He rubbed a hand through his hair. “It’s just, after being in combat, orders come naturally. Seeing you, somebody so small near danger… well, it hits triggers. All sorts of triggers.”
She could handle him bossy or charming. But sweet and honest? She shook her head and gestured toward his hard body. “You’re just… too much.”
He chuckled. “If you give me another chance, I promise I’ll tone it down. All of it.”
She’d be a fool to let this guy get close, but she knew better than to make a snap decision based on one moment or one emotion.
She studied him. Earnest eyes, relaxed shoulders, apologetic half smile. If he was working her, he was damn good at it.
Yeah, she liked him. Not only the look of him, but the self-effacing humor and ease of saying he was wrong. Most Alpha guys like him never admitted to being wrong. He’d had no problem with it.
Plus, she needed a bouncer, and he could certainly bounce. The tickle at the nape of her neck promised something bad was coming, and facing it with a guy who wanted to protect her? Probably not a bad idea, so long as he understood the rules. While she wanted to convince herself she was making a business decision, there was no doubt her feelings for him went beyond personal. But she could handle her own emotions. “Fine. One more chance, but if you order me around again, you’re out of here.”
“Fair enough.” He opened the door.
Heat brushed her as she moved past him. “If I ever get lost in a snowstorm, I hope you’re there,” she muttered under her breath. The guy cascaded warmth.
“Huh?” Matt asked as he shut the door.
“Nothing.” She shook her head and headed back to the bar to get to work. What would life be like if she could flirt a little and even hope for a future? One with a husband and even kids? But there were no kids in her future.
She plastered on a smile and began helping Smitty with drinks. The weekend chef manned the kitchen to prepare bar food, so she didn’t need to cook that night.
The evening slid into closing time, and she shut the outside door with a sigh of relief. As usual, she double-checked the door locks and extra stoppers placed into the floor. The bikers had filled her till as well as the tip jars. “It was a good night.” She smiled as she tossed a bar rag toward Smitty.
He caught it and grinned, lines fanning out from his bloodshot eyes. “Cleanup was quick. Ready for inventory?”
“No.” She jerked her head toward the kitchen. “We’re done for the night and will do inventory another time. Go home and get some rest since tomorrow night will be busier than tonight, probably.”
He finished wiping down the bar. “You do look tired, boss. Feeling all right?”
“I’m fine.” The flush filling her face resulted from Matt’s loping in from the kitchen and not from any illness. “I’ll see you tomorrow afternoon.”
“Good enough.” Smitty nodded to Matt on his way out. “Night, all.”
“Night.” Matt crossed broad arms. “Did I hear something about inventory?”
“Yes. I’ve got it.” She reached under the bar for a notebook. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
His smile was slow and way too sexy. “We could get it done in half the time if we worked together.”
Well, at least he’d stopped issuing orders. She studied him for a moment. While she felt like she could sleep for a week, he looked up for running a few miles. Her eyes were gritty and her neck already ached, promising a headache would soon arrive. With her efforts in becoming part of the town and trying to learn how to make friends, she’d been working on accepting assistance and not being so alone. She really could use the help tonight, stubbornness aside. “Okay. Follow me to the storeroom.”
A small room with a sexy ex-marine after midnight? What could possibly go wrong?
