Review: Wind Chime Point by Sherryl Woods + Giveaway

Format: Bound (Provided by publisher)
Release Date: April 30, 2013

Facing a personal crisis, ambitious and driven Gabriella Castle retreats to the welcoming arms of her family. Everything she's worked for has been yanked out from under her, and she seeks the serenity of her grandmother's home on the North Carolina coast. With difficult decisions to make about her future, the last thing she wants is an unexpected love.

Wade Johnson fell for Gabi the first time he saw her. It's not the only time he's found himself in the role of knight in shining armor, but Gabi isn't looking for a rescuer. To get her to stay, Wade will need a whole lot of patience and gentle persuasion…and maybe the soothing sound of wind chimes on a summer breeze.

Gabriella Castle is having a baby. And she no longer has her dream job. Her life is a bit complicated and the last thing she wants is for her well meaning family to start trying to fix her up with Wade Johnson, a local carpenter.

But maybe it's exactly what she needs.

The second book in a trilogy, Wind Chime Point is a tender story of love and what it takes to be a real family in a small town.

Gabi wasn't a very likable character for most of the book. Understandably, she wants to remain in control of her life but with an unexpected pregnancy and her family around she feels like she can no longer control the simple things in life. However, at times she was a little too emotionally closed off. She continually rejected Wade even as he provided her with what she was missing in her previous relationship. She was borderline unforgivable but towards the end she opened her eyes and ended up with things she never knew she wanted.

Wade had the patience of a saint! At times I couldn't understand WHY he was so infatuated with Gabi, she didn't have a sparkling personality to recommend her. He was sweet and kind with those around him. Basically, Wade is the type of man that many women dream of but rarely find. He was almost too perfect and that would have made him a boring and one dimensional character had it not been for his past. Though Wade's past is very similar to Boone's from Sand Castle Bay in that they were both previously married and lost their wives very tragically, Sherryl Woods managed to take a similar tragedy and have a different outcome with Wade.

Though the eventual outcome was entirely predictable, Gabi flirted with the possibility of adoption. Something I have found that not many romances do. It may be a small detail to some, but to me it brought a measure of realism and made Gabi a more multidimensional character. It also made me like her more because she faced her reality and considered all her options.

Wind Chime Point is moderately paced though with the lack of physical intimacy between Wade and Gabi it may seem like the book is too slow and too long. It's great to have characters truly get to know each other before falling in love (and into bed) but it is hard to believe that two modern day people who are attracted to one another would not be physically intimate throughout the development of their relationship.

Through it all, Wind Chime Point is a book that will bring smiles and warmth. The supporting characters are entertaining even when they are being meddlesome. Best of all, it sets up the cast of the next and final book in the trilogy. Samantha Castle just may prove to be the most interesting sister of them all. Only time will tell.
