Review: Her Mad Hatter by Marie Hall

Format: .mobi (purchased)
Release Date: July 7, 2012

Alice is all grown up. Running the Mad Hatter's Cupcakery and Tea Shoppe is a delicious job, until fate--and a fairy godmother with a weakness for bad boys--throws her a curveball. Now, Alice is the newest resident of Wonderland, where the Mad Hatter fuels her fantasies and thrills her body with his dark touch.

The Mad Hatter may have a voice and a body made for sex, but he takes no lovers. Ever. But a determined fairy godmother has forced Alice into Wonderland--and his arms. Now, as desire and madness converge, the Hatter must decide if he will fight the fairy godmother's mating--or fight for Alice.

Take note e-book vendors, authors and publishers! Making a book (or in this case, a novella) free for a limited time CAN be beneficial to all involved! Allow me to explain.

A free book, especially if it's part of a series, allows a reader to give a new author a try without any risks. If the reader loves the book, they're more likely to rush back to the site where the book was offered, and purchase additional books by that author.

Her Mad Hatter by Marie Hall was such a book for me. The fact that it was free (as of 4/25/13) snagged my attention. But it was curiosity that made me pick it up at 2 a.m. and begin reading. What's different about Her Mad Hatter and the rest of the Kingdom series is that instead of being based on the heroes and heroines of popular fairy tales, Marie Hall has made the villains the heroes.

The Mad Hatter is a deliciously tortured, drop dead sexy character. His decent into madness is fast approaching and the only thing that can stop him from losing his mind completely is true love. However, things aren't as easy as they seem. Especially not in Wonderland, and when the Hatter's potential mate looks eerily similar to the woman who betrayed him years before, things become even more complicated and dire.

At approximately 40,000 words, Her Mad Hatter packs a lot into a short amount of time and does it beautifully. Marie Hall's unique take on famous villains is refreshing, she creates sympathy for characters who have long been maligned.

If you don't get a chance to snag Her Mad Hatter while it's free, then you can purchase it as part of a bundle with books 2 and 3 of the Kingdom series for only $2.99.

Marie Hall has a brand new fan in me and I will definitely be collecting her books as soon as I can.
