First in a breathtaking new series, the bold and passionate Lucan MacLeod—one of three brothers cursed by dark magic for eternity—is driven by desire for the one woman he dare not let himself possess…

He is magnificently strong—and dangerously seductive. One of the fiercest of his clan, Lucan MacLeod is a legend among warriors, inspiring fear in man and woman alike. For three hundred years, he has locked himself away from the world, hiding the vengeful god imprisoned in his soul. But then, a young lass caught in a raging storm awakens his deepest impulses…and darkest desires.

Cara doesn’t believe the rumors about MacLeod castle—until the majestic Highland warrior appears like a fiery vision in the storm, pulling her into his powerful arms, and into his world of magic and Druids. An epic war between good and evil is brewing. And Lucan must battle his all-consuming attraction for Cara—or surrender to the flames of a reckless, impossible love that threatens to destroy them both…

I really wanted to like this book, truly I did, but alas I didn't like it... I loved it! I have read only about a handful of romance novels with Highlanders as lead characters and I didn't really care for them, the accents may have been a bit too strong to deal with or the story was just too weak.

That's not a problem for Donna Grant apparently. Dangerous Highlander, the first of the Dark Sword series is a mixture of paranormal and fantasy that doesn't overwhelm the reader with too much information, nor does it stray from what genre it truly belongs to, romance! It's a sexy, steamy read and the chemistry between Lucan and Cara is amazing. They are perfectly balanced with Lucan being neither a pushover or overbearing and Cara being just gentle enough to care for Lucan but strong enough not to let him push her around.

This is not a wimpy book either, there are some rather bloody scenes in it along with magic, Druids and really, really sexy Highlanders. It's fresh, sexy, action packed and mysterious.

Lucan is one of the ultimate alpha male warriors. He's fiercely loyal to his brothers, who are the only family he has left and though he contains a god within him that could destroy everything in sight, he is remarkably kind, caring and considerate of those who are closest to him.

I was curious to see what kind of woman Cara would be and if, in my eyes, she was a match for Lucan. It was a tall order to fill because Lucan is sexy, powerful and immortal, while Cara is, well, not. However, as Dangerous Highlander progresses, you find out that Cara is more than what she seems and it comes as a surprise to even her.

Of course, I must not forget Lucan's brothers, Fallon and Quinn who seem to have a harder time with their fates than Lucan, particularly Quinn. Then there's the introduction to a few more warriors, Galen, Ramsey and Hayden (who I am suspicious about but that's my problem isn't it?), all of whom I am eager to get my hands on, literally and figuratively speaking.

Halfway through the Dangerous Highlander I was saying "Braveheart who?" These immortal warriors have grabbed my attention and it doesn't seem like they're going to let go anytime soon!

With all the elements that make up my favorite types of romance novels, is it any wonder that I loved this book and am now on the hunt for the second book in the series?
