Author! Author! Eight Questions with Kate Evangelista + Giveaway

In case you haven't already heard, Kate Evangelista is a very talented writer. I'm not kidding, if you haven't read her YA Paranormal novel Taste yet, well you can enter at the end of this post for a chance to win a copy. Don't forget to check out my review of Taste!

When Kate Evangelista was told she had a knack for writing stories, she did the next best thing: entered medical school. After realizing she wasn't going to be the next Doogie Howser, M.D., Kate wandered into the Literature department of her university and never looked back. Today, she is in possession of a piece of paper that says to the world she owns a Literature degree. To make matters worse, she took Master's courses in creative writing. In the end, she realized to be a writer, none of what she had mattered. What really mattered? Writing. Plain and simple, honest to God, sitting in front of her computer, writing. Today, she has four completed Young Adult novels.

Kate was nice enough to not only allow me to review Taste but also to answer a few questions I had AND she's giving away one copy of Taste to a lucky follower, so a huge thank you to Kate Evangelista for taking the time to do so.

Adria: Would you ever consider writing for another genre?

Kate: Yes. I actually have an urban fantasy with Entangled right now called Til Death. I have several dystopians as well and I'm currently working on a couple of contemporaries. But I stick with romance. There can be suspense and mystery within my plots, but I mostly stick to romance.
Adria: What would readers find on your bookshelf?

Kate: Lots of YA, Historical Romances, and Paranormal Romances.
Adria: Is there anything in Taste that you wish you had written differently?

Kate: Great question. *thinks about it* Not really. I've been editing and rewriting Taste for years. There have been many changes to the story, so I believe the end product you have in your hands today is what the story should be.

Adria: Where did you get your inspiration for Phoenix, Demitri and Luka?

Kate: They came as they are actually. In writing, I always start with a character in my head. This character then tells me the story I put onto the page. Their personalities have been tweaked through the years, but essentially, their characteristics remain the same.

Adria: Let's imagine that Taste was going to be made into a movie, who would be your dream cast?

Kate: For Luka, I've always had Alex Pettyfer in mind. As for Phoenix, I'm drawing a blank, but one reader said she wanted Zoey Deschanel...although she might be too old to play a teen. As for Demitri, I'm drawing a big blank too. I remember seeing this ad for aftershave once with a model who I thought looked like Demitri. So, like I said, Luka I know for sure, the rest I leave to the casting director.
Adria: Have you had the chance to meet many fans? Is there any one encounter that was particularly memorable?

Kate: Since I live in the Philippines and Taste has yet to be released here, I haven't actually met any of the fans. I do receive emails and tweets. I guess the most memorable to date has to do with a fan actually drawing fan art that had Luka, Phoenix, and Demitri on it. The picture is now my laptop wallpaper.
Adria: Best part of being a published author? How about the worst?

Kate: The best part would have to be the thought that my book is finally out there for everyone to read and discover. As for the worst part? Haven't really encountered any yet. I'll keep you posted.

Adria: Is there anything you'd like to add or that you'd like readers to know?

Kate: First of all, I would like to take this chance to thank you for hosting me and Taste on your blog today. I enjoyed answering your questions. I would also like to wish your giveaway entrants good luck. I look forward to sending one of you a copy of Taste. And to all the readers, thank you so much for taking the time to let Phoenix and the rest of #TeamBarinkoff into your lives. I had a lot of fun putting their story together for all of you.

Thank you so much Kate!
