Top Ten Tuesday

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, Top Ten Tuesday is a celebration of lists! Each week a theme will be posted and bloggers will post their lists on their respective blogs. Some themes are pretty straightforward and others are open for interpretation.

This week’s Topic: Fandom Freebie!
I’m not going to lie, I’m a fandom whore. I have such a deep love for things it’s not even funny. I’ve always been a fandom whore even before I knew what a fandom was and narrowing it down to ten is tough but I’ll give it a try.

Marvel Cinematic Universe - You had to see that coming. I’m a junkie for the movies, the tv shows, you name it. I’m working on the comic books (There are soooo many that it would take me years to get them all) too. Anyway, it’s all about the fun, the family vibe, and the inner conflicts with the characters that get my inner teen going. Of course, I’m not going to lie, I get swoony with the actors playing them too *wink* It’s one of my Happy Places. I have t-shirts, Pop Funko dolls, hats, artwork, and now a cutting board. Technically that’s my mom’s but it still counts. I’m an Agents of SHIELD whore too. I have a badge… Lol. Don’t get me started on the X-Men movies cause I was watching the cartoons since I was a wee dork. I always wanted to be Jean Grey. She’s my favorite.

NCIS - Okay so am I still in the fandom if I prefer the seasons with Ziva David? Cause that character was my absolute favorite. Dangerous, flawed (So flawed), and intelligent. Also, Gibbs. The ultimate Alpha Male who DOESN’T get on my nerves.

Lord of the Rings films - I have figurines people. Lots of them. Dolls, T-shirts I don’t fit anymore but refuse to give up, Posters, Collector’s Edition magazines, TWO copies of the soundtracks, bookmarks, and um… I speak a bit of Elvish. Yes, you read that right. I also introduce ALL my furkids to the films. The latest inductee was Hayley. She's a tv watcher. Don’t judge.

Books - Oh man this one almost caused my mom to strangle me. As kids my sister and I were read to every night by our mom (She even did silly voices), and when the book fair came around she always bought us a bunch of books off of our wish lists. Fast forward to age 30 and I still have 90% of those books PLUS all the ones I accumulated in high school and as an adult. That added up to about 39 of those large plastic containers. To say that there was no room was an understatement.

Thank goodness e-readers came about because if I added one more book I was going to be strangled and buried under all my books. Sadly I had to give away 98% of my physical copies. I’ve kept all my signed books and a few that had sentimental value to me.

I've also learned that Hayley has ZERO respect for books. Or e-readers.

Potatoes - I’m a foodie and while I have a lot of favorites I always come back to potatoes. Baked, fried, grilled, mashed… I could eat them almost any way (And have). I could snack on them or eat them as a meal, I am obsessed with potatoes.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - This show got me through my teen years in one piece. It’s a magical show that really touched a lot of people. Taking teen/real life problems and using monsters to represent them really drove home how tough we all had it and how a lot of us felt when dealing with those issues. Buffy ushered in a new kind of female character: The hero of the story. She saved herself, she saved her friends, she saved her boyfriend, and even though she had all this super strength she was still vulnerable in a way that made her totally relatable. If you’ve never watched the show you really should. If it’s not Buffy you relate to, it could be Willow, Xander, Giles or any of the other addictive characters. I have ALL the seasons on dvd and can recite lines like no one’s business.

Dogs - I know the “In” thing on the internet is cats but I’ve always been a dog person. I love wolves too but those aren’t pets lol. Anyway, I have had dogs since I was nine and honestly can’t live without one. Mr. Pud was my very special guardian angel and I’d like to think he chose Hayley Bean to help me cope with losing him so soon. Hayley is like a tornado, she hits fast, hard, and when she’s done passing through the room you wonder what the hell that was and where your shoe went.

Pens - I have four gallon ziplocks of pens that I use sparingly because I can’t replace them as easily as I used to. I have coloring ink pens, ball point, fine point, glitter pens, quill tip pens, marker pens, the works. I was worse in high school though because that’s all I would ask for for my birthday and Christmas. I also had friends who were enablers and got me pens too. Usually as a bribe but hey a pen is a pen right?

Music - I can’t live without music. I love many different genres: Modern Country, Pop, Classical, Latin, Soundtracks, Opera, Hip Hop, Rock… It goes on. I’m always on the lookout for more songs to add to my playlist.

Cold Weather - Not like 10 below 0 or anything like that but I love those cloudy, chilly days where you just want to curl up with a book while wearing your snuggie. While cuddling your dog (or cat). My favorite days are when it’s about 60 degrees, cloudy and raining a bit. London type weather actually. That’s when I feel happier and healthier.

Those are just a few of my fandoms. I'm bad.
