Quote-Tastic: Archer and Elle!

Hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup, Quote-tastic is a weekly Monday meme that gives readers a chance to share their favorite book quotes. So settle back, share your favorite quotes and help me add to my TBR mountain, er, have fun?

This week's quotes: Come from one of my favorite reads this year, Accidentally On Purpose by Jill Shalvis. This first one is when Elle is demanding an answer to a question and Archer takes her away from their group of friends in order to get more privacy.

“Hey,” she said, having to run to keep up with him. “My shoes—”

He slowed and without turning to her, reached back, hooked a hand around her thigh and hoisted her up so that he was carrying her piggy back.

It momentarily stunned her. Or, more accurately, the feel of his broad back to her chest stunned her. As did the feel of his arms now hooked around her legs. “Put me down!”

“The terrain’s uneven and God forbid but it’s dirty out here,” he said. “You really want to ruin your Guccis?”

“They’re Kate Spade.” And no, dammit, she didn’t want to ruin them. She blew out a sigh and dropped her forehead to his beefy shoulder.

But this wasn’t helpful as it put his neck within an inch or two of her mouth. He had a really great throat and damn if even after a day in the woods fishing and hiking and God knew what, he still smelled sexy as hell.

“Are you . . . sniffing me?” he asked.

She froze, her nose pressed to the back of his neck. “No.”

“Yes you are.” He sounded amused. “You just inhaled me like I was one of Tina’s muffins from the coffee shop—”

Later she would swear she had no idea what came over her, but she bit him. Not a hard bite, more like a nibble. With a lot of teeth.

“What the—” He stopped and let her slide down his body.

And this quote happens just after Archer does something to really tick Elle off and she just has to let him know via text messaging since he’s out working with his team of employees. Of course, autocorrect strikes.

In truth, keeping his distance had been the hardest thing he’d ever done. He hated himself for desiring her as much as he did. Now and then. She’d been a kid for God’s sake. He’d had no business wanting her at all. It’d made him work doubly hard at keeping her safe over the years. Safe for life, he’d promised himself. She deserved that after such a rough start. So yeah, the illusion of distance had become his best friend.

At least until the other night when they’d been camping and Spence had called the girls in for the s’mores mission. Because the illusion of distance had shifted the second Elle had planted her warm mouth on his. And when he’d gotten a taste of her, he’d completely lost his fucking mind as well.

Elle had been right about one thing—that couldn’t happen again.

Giving in to his curiosity, he finally pulled out his phone and accessed his text.

Elle: I’m going to kiss you!
          Archer: With tongue?
Elle: Kill you. I’m going to KILL you. Ducking autocorrect!

Archer found himself grinning like an idiot. He used his Bluetooth to call her and was still cracking up when she connected but didn’t speak. “Looking forward to this kiss,” he said.

“You really called me just to say that?” came her frosty voice. “Calls are only for when someonedies, Archer. And even that could come in a text.”

He heard a snort in his ear, cluing him into the fact that his guys could hear her through their comms. He sighed. “Did you need something, Elle?”

“To know when you’ll be home so I can kill you,” she said. “And that’s k-i-l-l, not k-i-s-s.”

     More muffled snorts.

“Okay, great,” he said. “Thanks for narrowing that down.”

Book Blurb:
There’s no such thing as a little in love . . .
Elle Wheaton’s priorities: friends, career, and kick-ass shoes. Then there’s the muscular wall of stubbornness that’s security expert Archer Hunt—who comes before everything else. No point in telling Mr. “Feels-Free Zone” that, though. Elle will just see other men until she gets over Archer . . . which should only take a lifetime . . .

There’s no such thing as a little in lust . . .
Archer’s wanted the best for Elle ever since he sacrificed his law-enforcement career to save her. Their chemistry could start the next San Francisco earthquake and he craves her 24/7, but Archer doesn’t want to be responsible for the damage. The alternative? Watch her go out with guys who aren’t him . . .

There is such a thing as . . .
As far as Archer’s concerned, nobody is good enough for Elle. But when he sets out to prove it by sabotaging her dates, she gets mad—and things get hot as hell. Now Archer has a new mission: prove to Elle that her perfect man has been here all along . . .
