Blake Harris had no idea what he was doing staring down the door of his best friend’s baby sister. Okay, he did have an idea, he just wasn’t loving it.

Carrie Morgan was on the other side of that door, and yes, Blake cared about her. He’d known her brother since they were kids. But this was her wedding. Or it was supposed to be. And now she was on the other side of the door, in tears, because her scumbag fiancé had abandoned her for another woman.

Shit. He’d never been close to her. He’d been sixteen and she’d been nine when his mom had died and he’d spent so many afternoons with her older brother Lane. But hell. Lane was his best friend. He couldn’t just let his sister suffer like this.

Blake would go back to his outdoor guiding business in the mountains soon, bury himself in work, but not before he made sure Carrie was okay.

He hadn’t even had a chance to see her yet since she’d not left the bridal suite in forty-eight hours. Even since she’d gotten word that the groom wasn’t going to show. Could have been worse. She could have been literally stood up at the altar. At least the piece of shit fiancé had told her two days before the wedding.

Now, he was staring down her hotel room door and asking god to open the door.

He knocked twice.

“Carrie?” he called. He heard low music and rustling. “It’s Blake. Come on, little girl, open up.”

Lane was the closest thing to a brother he had, and neither distance or time had changed that. Then there was Carrie.

The sweet girl Jake and Lane had spent their teenage years playing Uno with and looking after. Until Blake had graduated college and moved to the city.

Shit. He was an ass for not being around more. Poor girl was likely behind the door crying, and that made him want to punch the douche bag that had hurt her. Maybe later he’d help Lane hunt the prick down.

Blake took the keycard that Lane had given him out of his pocket. “I’m coming in,” he announced. “Just want to check on you…”

Blake peeked in. “Carrie?”

He stepped into the room. It was a massive suite with a sitting area and kitchen. The plush furniture was lined with roses, and unlit candles were scattered around everywhere. Ah shit, so this was her honeymoon suite.

He stepped further in and heard the low sound of music got louder. It was coming from the open bedroom door. He looked in and found—

“What the hell?” he asked, taking in the scene, or rather the woman before him.

The strawberry blond five feet in front of him was moving and shaking in the middle of the room. What was more distracting was the fact that she was doing that in nothing but a pair of panties and matching white tank top. Her eyes were locked on the wide screen hanging on the wall. He glanced at the television. She was doing…jazzercise?

“Carrie?” His voice decided to break a little around the one word he’d said several times but now held a lot more heat. Sure, his blood felt hot, but his skin was cold.

So this is what shock feels like.

She froze and faced him. “Blake?”

He smiled, and her body remained still while her chest heaved with deep breaths. While those inhales made the thin cotton stretch over her breasts in a way that made his mouth instantly water, it was better than her dancing. Because any more bouncing on her part and he might forget she was his best friend’s little sister and lose his damn mind wondering how many more deep breaths it would take to make that tank top non-existent.

“What are you doing here?” she asked, not bothering to cover up. Something he wasn’t completely upset about since the woman was smoking hot. She wasn’t a little girl, he knew that. But he’d barely seen her since she was a teenager. And seeing her now, all woman—worse, his type of woman—that fact hit harder than the last.

He glanced down, attempting to take a break from marveling at her, but all he accomplished was getting flashes of those tone thigh and adorable pink-tipped toes.

Nope. She definitely wasn’t the kid he grew up with anymore. She was twenty-three with a tight body, perfect ass, and breasts he’d just learned had no problem doing a Baywatch slow-motion run in place.

She’d invited him to the wedding, but he realized that she’d likely meant: What the hell are you doing in my hotel room?
“I’m here to see you,” he said.

She nodded as if his answer was good enough and walked to the bedside table. She seemed…carefree? Not at all the crying woman he’d expected to find. Then she grabbed a half empty bottle of Jack Daniels off the table and took a few swigs.
Well that explains things.

“Glad to see you’re staying hydrated,” Blake said. She wasn’t carefree, she was drunk. And exercising. An odd combination, but he could see the logic. Drink away the sorrows and get the endorphins going. He’d try it out himself next time he felt so lonely he forgot why a relationship was off the table for him.

She winced on her final swig and wiped the back of her hand over her mouth.

“Yep. Hydrating is important,” she said. “I’ve got to stick with my video exercise. Been doing this for six months to get ‘bikini ready’ and if I stop now then…”

She trailed off and folded her lips together as if to fight off tears.

Ah, hell. Put him between a woman and a man who meant her harm, he knew what to do. Swing until the other guy went down. But a crying woman? One who’d already been abandoned by the guy? Yet another sign Blake had failed by not saying something. Or at least getting here early. Maybe then he could have caught the scumbag before he disappeared to who knew where.

But nope. Blake’s life and job were a hundred percent on his time and agenda. Freedom was a heady thing, and he would always be free. Never tied to a woman, never love, because the loss that came with love was too much.

But this woman was different. The protective instinct he had came roaring to the surface at the first sign of water lining her eyes. She was hurting. Her shoulders slinking. And there wasn’t a damn thing he could do about it. But he so badly wanted to.

She shook her head. “I guess I don’t have to do the videos anymore now that I’m not going to Hawaii.” She took another swig. “Guess it didn’t matter how hard I worked out, Kevin left anyway. The whole time he was cheating! Can you believe that? With his trainer. Which, by the way, I want a refund on all those ‘classes’ he signed up for to get his own ass ‘bikini ready,’ because I doubt nailing your trainer burns more calories than a treadmill.”

Oh. My. God. Carrie Morgan can’t escape her cheating ex fiancé. She goes on her Hawaiian honeymoon fantasy vacation to prove she’s over him—but he’s there with his mistress in tow. Good thing Carrie’s annoyingly over-protective friend Blake came with her. How’s she going to prove to her ex she’s over him? Easy. One… Two… Three… She grabs Blake and kisses him.

Blake Harris isn’t about to let anyone take advantage of his heartbroken friend Carrie. And that includes himself, even if she’s sexy as sin in that bikini. Then she kisses him—and he’s on fire. Damage done, but he can back off. Except he sees that broken look in Carrie’s eyes. No. Hell no. New plan. He intends to show her ex just what he’s thrown away.

The kisses? For show. The heat? Part of the performance. The private practice sessions? Uh-oh. Those are starting to feel a bit too real…

He has a offer she can’t refuse
Daniel Tanner’s been in love with Amy since they were teenagers, and he’s tired of being seen as the proverbial best friend. If she would only give him a chance to show her how good they could be together, that giving in to the fiery attraction between them won’t burn up and ruin their friendship.

Amy Morgan has had a front row seat to the parade of women coming in and out of Daniel’s life for years, and she’s not interested in risking their friendship for something that would eventually end in heartache. And that’s how it would end, because if Amy’s learned anything in life, it’s that men leave. She couldn’t handle having her heart broken by her best friend, even if the promise of untold passion is keeping her up nights.

But no one knows Amy better than Daniel, and he’s devised a plan to show her they can have it all.

Quote-Tastic: Archer and Elle!

Hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup, Quote-tastic is a weekly Monday meme that gives readers a chance to share their favorite book quotes. So settle back, share your favorite quotes and help me add to my TBR mountain, er, have fun?

This week's quote: is from Accidentally on Purpose by Jill Shalvis.

I’m so in love with the Heartbreaker Bay series and so far this one has been my favorite book in the series. There are so many stand out moments in the book but for me the scene where Elle is texting Archer after she finds out he sabotaged her date with another man. Auto-correct strikes again.

TGIF Week End Wrap Up

Well this week has been interesting to say the least.

This past weekend we had some really bad winds, now I’m used to El Paso’s windy weather but this one was pretty bad. They rattled the house some and knocked down trees which cut the power in some areas.

My poor cat Spencer who hates windy days was so terrified I had to go into a closet with him and cuddle him like when he was a baby. I felt so bad, he’s already six years old but he still acts like the little tiny ball of fluff we found. Needless to say I needed the extra strength allergy pills after that but it was worth it. I’d forgotten how cuddly Spencer could be when he’s scared.

Favorite Character Friday: Unlikely Hero

Favorite Character Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Adria's Romance Reviews that gives readers a chance to celebrate their favorite characters!

Why a weekly meme? Because really, with millions of books out there and more coming out every week, characters are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

How it works: Every week you pick one of your favorite characters and tell every one who it is, what book they're from and WHY they're one of your favorite characters. Be sure to include the blurb and book cover as well! Share the love and maybe someone will read that same book and see why that character is one of your favorites! Unlike the Book Boyfriend meme (which was a great meme), your Favorite Character Fridays choice can be male or female!

Tuesday Jams: Road Less Traveled

So, the one other thing I love just as much as reading? Listening to music! That's why Tuesday Jams has just become one of my new favorite memes!

Can't get out of my head song(s) this week are: Road Less Traveled by Lauren Alaina

This song should seriously be an anthem for women young and old. My mom plays it non-stop these days to inspire and encourage herself to take the steps she needs to in order to accomplish her part in our plans to move out of state.

Quote-Tastic: Getting Lost

Hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup, Quote-tastic is a weekly Monday meme that gives readers a chance to share their favorite book quotes. So settle back, share your favorite quotes and help me add to my TBR mountain, er, have fun?

This week's quote: Is from Kidnapped (Formerly Lost in Italy) by Stacey Joy Netzel. This was my very first book by Stacey and what stood out for me was the humor laced in with the danger, suspense, and heat. No matter how many of Stacey’s books I read this one will always have a special place in my heart. It’s just so much fun. Trent and Halli’s back and forth banter even in the middle of a dangerous situation always makes me smile.

TGIF Week End Wrap Up

Eesh another week is ending and we’re getting closer to the start of spring! Oh no! So this week wasn’t really that eventful (None of my weeks are eventful really).

I’m working on a new header for the blog. It’s taken me MONTHS to do this one because I had to start from scratch by sketching a really rough draft of what I wanted to do. The sketching wasn’t so bad because I’ve missed it but I don’t have a scanner anymore so I had to rely on my not so good phone camera to get them onto the laptop. Also, tweaking virtual me isn’t easy either. I’m a perfectionist and there aren’t any real tutorials on how to turn yourself into a little cartoon without the aid of expensive programs. I managed but there’s something that’s holding me up: I have two shelves that have books, a plant, a radio, and a cat but there’s still space that I don’t know how to fill up! What else do people usually put on book shelves?

TV Talk for January

I really do enjoy watching tv shows and movies but with Reality TV and over the top dramas being all the rage there’s not a whole lot of options for me. Recently I’ve been going back to older tv shows that I haven’t seen in awhile or even “new” old tv shows that I get to experience for the first time. I have a list of shows I want to catch up on or watch again so I'll be working my way through that plus watching the two or three shows that are currently airing right now.

What shows are you all tuning into?

St. Martin's Press Blog Tour: Ready Set Rogue by Manda Collins (review)

Hi everyone! So, who is a fan of Manda Collins? I've only read about two or three books from her, I need to fix that. I had a good time with Ready Set Rogue even if there were a few things I had a problem with.

About Manda:

Manda Collins is the author of The Lords of Anarchy series, which includes Good Earl Gone Bad and A Good Rake is Hard to Find, as well as several other Regency-set romances.

She spent her teen years wishing she’d been born a couple of centuries earlier, preferably in the English countryside.

Time travel being what it is, she resigned herself to life with electricity and indoor plumbing, and read lots of books.

When she’s not writing, she’s helping other people use books, as an academic librarian.

Publisher: St. Martin’s Press

Can't get out of my head song(s) this week are:Fly Away From Here by Aerosmith.

This song made me cry when it first came out. I was in high school and I just wanted to get out of the town I was living in because I was so unhappy and it was inspiring. Long story short, I heard it the other day on the radio and it reignited that desperation to get out of the town I'm STILL in. This time though I want this song to be one of my motivators to change thing.

TGIF Week End Wrap Up

Oy but this week has been tough on me. I got sick on Monday morning (Stomach bug I guess) and spent the day shivering and running to the bathroom. Not fun at all right? By the end of the day I was feeling a little better but kind of run down.

I tuned in to the mid season premieres of my favorite shows (All two of them lol), and watched the second episode of the current season of Sherlock (OMG). But that's for a different post and a different time.

The camping trip takes a different turn as Jackson and Laney start to realize that their friends with benefits relationship can’t continue indefinitely.

2017 Goals... I Haz Them.

I thought long and hard about whether or not I wanted to share my goals for this year. To be honest, I have a hard time sharing, being open, or even maintaining friendships. Not because I don’t want to but because it’s just difficult for me to relate to most people and I noticed that last year on the blog there was a lack of personality. It was just, reviews, reviews, reviews. I didn’t even do many author interviews or any kind of interviews. It was kind of… Generic.

On top of that, I kind of let my life go stagnate. So much has happened to me in the last 10 years and I hadn’t realized how it shaped my life and obliterated my plans. Not to mention my personality. So here I am, trying to find myself again. I’ve tried everything except writing them down and I hope that will help me keep my focus for this year. Also, a shout out to Anna from Herding Cats and Burning Soup for inspiring me to post my goals this year.

He broke her heart.
Graysen’s betrayal nearly destroyed Isa a year ago. Now that she’s working for Red Stone Security, she’s managed to piece her life back together after a rough year and a broken heart. Then he appears back in her life and makes it clear he’s not going anywhere until she gives them a second chance. A chance she refuses to take.

Now he’s back to claim what’s his…
Graysen’s never gotten over Isa and he knows he never will. It’s his fault she walked away, but he can’t seem to let her go. He quit his job with the CIA and called in every favor he had to get hired by Red Stone Security just to be near her again. But Isa doesn’t care that he’s desperate to make things right between them—she wants nothing to do with him. He doesn’t blame her, but he’s not willing to give her up. When they’re cornered by lethal terrorists, everything changes. Graysen and Isa will have to find a way to work together if they want to survive. Only then will he be able to convince her to claim the chance at happiness the past stole from them.

What’s it About? Graysen West’s betrayal broke Isa Harper’s heart and her trust in him. A year later and Isa’s working for Red Stone Security and Graysen is desperate for another chance with her so he calls in all sorts of favors so that he can not only work at Red Stone, but work with Isa on a case. Isa on the other hand wants nothing to do with Graysen but when circumstances force them even closer together they have no choice but to work together and hash out their past.

Describe the hero in five words: Persistent. Dedicated. Alpha. Smart. Vulnerable.
Did you like him? Yes.
Why? Honestly, Graysen’s vulnerability was a big draw for me. His love for Isa made him emotionally vulnerable and that made him more likable to me. I don’t like characters who are too macho and while Graysen was definitely an alpha male, he wasn’t a one dimensional one. He had a lot of emotions going on and it made him a better character to me. I especially liked how Graysen respected Isa and her skills. He didn’t try to demean or undermine her in the guise of “protecting” her because he was the man and she was a woman.

Describe the heroine in five words: Intelligent. Courageous. Funny. Loyal. Vulnerable.
Did you like her? Yes.
Why? I love a female character who can do what Isa can. She worked as an active member of Red Stone and when things got dangerous she kept her cool and helped Graysen save the day. I also liked that she didn’t cave when it came to her past with Graysen. She didn’t make it easy for him to win her back not because she was punishing him but because she genuinely didn’t trust him anymore and he had to prove to her that she could trust him. I liked her dedication to her work and to the people she cared about the most though. Isa was kind and considerate and that balanced out the rough and dangerous work she did. I did have a bit of an objection to the way she reacted to seeing Graysen again. I’m not a fan of that particular move.

How convincing were the main characters as a couple? The chemistry between Graysen and Isa was hot but it was also something that needed to develop more due to the time the spent apart and the circumstances of their original relationship. I liked that Reus didn’t rush them into another relationship but rather made them work through Isa’s trust and betrayal problems. By the end I felt that they bonded and healed enough to make their second chance convincing.

Is there a “Scooby Gang” worth mentioning? Emerson and Carlito are two supporting characters who have a romance of their own going on in the background. I enjoyed the page time with them.

How “Lost” did you get in the story? It’s Katie Reus, it doesn’t take me long to get lost in her books and Lethal Game was no exception. There’s plenty of action, danger, and suspense to be had along with some red hot romance and likable characters. It’s a recipe for a good time.
