Favorite Character Friday: Charlotte!

Favorite Character Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Adria's Romance Reviews that gives readers a chance to celebrate their favorite characters!

Why a weekly meme? Because really, with millions of books out there and more coming out every week, characters are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

How it works: Every week you pick one of your favorite characters and tell every one who it is, what book they're from and WHY they're one of your favorite characters. Be sure to include the blurb and book cover as well! Share the love and maybe someone will read that same book and see why that character is one of your favorites! Unlike the Book Boyfriend meme (which was a great meme), your Favorite Character Fridays choice can be male or female!

Be sure to link back to Adria's Romance Reviews and share the link via the linky widget below.

Review: At Any Cost by Mandy Baxter

Not a bad time with this one.

Format: .mobi (A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. )

So keeping her rugged new neighbor at arm's length is the only safe play. Until Livy can't resist one last hungry chance to feel alive…

For U.S. Marshal Nick Brady, taking his vacation next door to Meecum's ex-girlfriend seemed the smartest way to find him. But suddenly, nothing is making sense. How could this feisty, straight-talking brunette ever get mixed up with Meecum's brutal crew? And why is he breaking his oath and getting so close that all he wants is to keep her safe? Now as the clock ticks, Nick and Livy's only chance at escape may be the one they can't survive…

Review: She's My Kind of Girl by Jennifer Dawson + Song Selection

Hands down one of my favorite small town romance series!

Format: .mobi (A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. )
Publisher: Kensington
Release Date: September 27, 2016

The only thing Darcy Miller ever wanted more than gorgeous troublemaker Griffin Strong was to shake off the dust of small-town Revival, Illinois, and head to the big city—even if she had to leave him behind. Ten years later, Darcy is the ultimate New Yorker, writing a sex blog and living on designer cocktails and the pulse of urban life. That is, until she hears that Revival plans to seize her mother’s house right after the holidays, thanks to the new mayor—who is none other than Darcy’s ex…

Griffin couldn’t have asked for a more dangerous Christmas gift. Curvy, sassy Darcy is every bit as delectable as the wild child she was in high school—and just as determined to stir up problems. But Griffin learned long ago to straighten up and fly right in order to make changes in the town he loves. Keeping his reputation wholesome is a big part of that. If only Darcy didn’t make him want to take his place on the naughty list with her, right under the mistletoe…

I just adore the Something New series more and more and that includes this novella. Basically Darcy Miller is forced to come home to Revival in order to try and help her mother keep her home from being seized, all part of the new plan the mayor has to turn the small town into something more than a cliché. The mayor who happens to be Darcy’s ex whom she left behind 10 years ago in order to pursue her dreams and get away from her upbringing. Griffin Strong, once bad boy turned mayor has to keep his reputation clean if he wants to bring changes to his hometown but Darcy is definitely the one that got away and these two definitely have unfinished business between them.

Review: Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare

Tessa Dare did it again! This book did not disappoint! And is anyone else trying to sing the title to the tune of Do You Wanna Build a Snowman or is it just me?

Format: .mobi (A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via Edelweiss for the purpose of an honest review. )
Publisher: Avon
Release Date: September 27, 2016

On the night of the Parkhurst ball, someone had a scandalous tryst in the library. Was it Lord Canby, with the maid, on the divan? Or Miss Fairchild, with a rake, against the wall? Perhaps the butler did it.

All Charlotte Highwood knows is this: it wasn’t her. But rumors to the contrary are buzzing. Unless she can discover the lovers’ true identity, she’ll be forced to marry Piers Brandon, Lord Granville—the coldest, most arrogantly handsome gentleman she’s ever had the misfortune to embrace. When it comes to emotion, the man hasn’t got a clue.

But as they set about finding the mystery lovers, Piers reveals a few secrets of his own. The oh-so-proper marquess can pick locks, land punches, tease with sly wit . . . and melt a woman’s knees with a single kiss. The only thing he guards more fiercely than Charlotte’s safety is the truth about his dark past.

Their passion is intense. The danger is real. Soon Charlotte’s feeling torn. Will she risk all to prove her innocence? Or surrender it to a man who’s sworn to never love?

What is an unmarried miss to do when she is caught in the middle of what promises to be an epic scandal with an equally unmarried marquess? Well Charlotte Highwood stubbornly sets out to find out the identity of the mystery lovers at the Parkhurst Ball. If she doesn't, she's going to have to marry Piers Brandon, the Marquess of Granville aka the coldest, most unfeeling man she's ever met. Only, when Piers and Charlotte are alone, he's not as cold and unfeeling as everyone believes. Working together brings out the best and worst in them and may not lead to solving the building mystery of just who was in the library with Piers and Charlotte that night?

A guy stood on the other side of the glass, mouth grim, expression dialed to Tall, Dark and Attitude-ridden. He was something too, all gorgeous and broody and –hold up. There was something familiar about him, enough that her feet propelled her forward out of pure curiosity. When it hit her halfway to the door, she froze, her heart just about skidding to a stop.

“Keane Winters,” she murmured, lip curling like she’d just eaten a black licorice. She hated black licorice. But she was looking at the only man on the planet who could make her feel all puckered up as well as good about her decision to give up men.

In fact, if she’d only given them up sooner, say back on the day of the Sadie Hawkins dance in her freshman year of high school when he’d stood her up, she’d have saved herself a lot of heartache in the years since.

On the other side of the door, Keane shoved his mirrored sunglasses to the top of his head, revealing dark chocolate eyes that she knew could melt when he was amused or feeling flirtatious, or turn to ice when he was so inclined.

     They were ice now.

Catching her gaze, he lifted a cat carrier. A bright pink bedazzled carrier.

     He had a cat.

Her entire being wanted to soften at this knowledge because that meant on some level at least he had to be a good guy, right?

Luckily her brain clicked on, remembering everything, every little detail of that long ago night. Like how she’d had to borrow a dress for the dance from a girl in her class who’d gleefully lorded it over her, how she’d had to beg her foster mother to let her go, how she’d stolen a Top Ramen from the locked pantry and eaten it dry in the bathroom so she wouldn’t have to buy both her dinner and his, as was custom for the “backward” dance.

“We’re closed,” she said through the still locked glass door.

Not a word escaped his lips. He simply raised the cat carrier another inch, like he was God’s gift.

And he had been. At least in high school.

Tuesday Jams: Blue Baby!

Brazen Babe Reviews have this awesome meme called Tuesday Jams where you share a song that you currently love and can't get out of your head (Or in my case, off "repeat" on my iPod). Everyone's welcome to join in, the more the merrier! Be sure to leave your link on their blog post so that others can stop by and see your selection!

So, the one other thing I love just as much as reading? Listening to music! Though the majority of my music is modern country or movie scores, I do listen to a little bit of everything and am always on the look out for more music to add to my collection (You should see my iTunes library, it's HUGE). That's why Tuesday Jams has just become one of my new favorite memes!

Can't get out of my head song(s) this week are:Blue Ain’t Your Color by Keith Urban.

Okay so one of the things I LOVE about his latest album is that while the lyrics are country, the music is influenced by so many other genres and it creates this unique sound that really works for me. You’ve got blues, you’ve got pop, you’ve got R&B, and you’ve even got a hint of disco vibes now and again. And you know me, I love it when musicians mix things up and allow for some artistic merging of genres.

Review: Seducing the Boss by Mari Carr

This was one of the steamier Friends-to-Lovers romances I've read this year. Definitely one I recommend!

Kellan James is unwinding at Score when he spots the last person he’d ever expect to find in his favorite bar. Sara Connelly—ER nurse, do-gooder, charitable crusader, and frequent pain in his ass. Both grew up privileged in swanky Southampton, but that’s where the similarities end. Kellan’s made it his mission to seek out life’s pleasures; Sara gains pleasure from lecturing him on his lifestyle. Kellan would never date someone like her. Ever.

But when Kellan discovers Sara’s been stood-up by an online date, something fierce and protective awakens inside of him. Typically, Kellan would enjoy teasing the jilted Sara, but something in her face sends him over to her table with a plan. He encourages her to take a walk on the wild side, one weekend of sin, no holds barred.

She accepts, but it quickly becomes apparent that one night isn’t enough. As the pull between them grows stronger, Kellan discovers it’s a very dangerous thing to say never.

Is there anything hotter than a Friends to Lovers romance with a dash of animosity for more heat? The set up is that Kellan and Sara have known each other since they were kids and while Kellan grew up to be the CEO of the local hospital; he’s also a playboy extraordinaire. Sara on the other hand works as an ER nurse in the same hospital and is constantly lecturing Kellan on his chosen lifestyle. He’s the “fun and games” guy and she’s the straight arrow so when Sara gets stood up one night Kellan decides to help her, by offering a weekend of no strings sex to help Sara live out some of her sexual fantasies. But the over arrogant Kellan ends up caught in his own plans when the weekend ends and he’s the one who wants more.

Adria Picks Ten Twenty: Actors Who Should Be Inspirations

Now I know that there’s at least one well known weekly meme that has bloggers list things according to themes but they’re not being thought up on the fly. I’ve had most of these lists for a while now. Of course, with my compulsion for making lists, you may see a few new ones now and again.

Today’s List: Twenty Actors Who Should Be Used as Inspirations for Romance Novels.

Have you ever noticed that most authors have the SAME inspirations for their heroes? It’s David Gandy, Chris Hemsworth, Henry Cavill, and/or Charlie Hunnam. And yeah those guys are hella hot (Especially that Hemsworth) but I’d hate to think that when I’ve just crossed off 15 great books on my list of reads that they ALL had the same kind of guy in mind no matter what sub genre. Um, are these guys the ONLY dudes available as inspiration? I’m just saying that there is a wealth of hunky celebrity men out there with new ones coming out every year. Why not mix it up a bit and change what “inspires” a romance novel hero? If I got a chance to submit my list of actors who “do it” for me these would be my top 20 (It’s an ongoing list folks, you can see it on my Pinterest Board as it continues to grow) in no particular order because that would be a never ending battle.

Edit: I actually decided to kick off this feature with this particular list after reading Jessica Lemmon’s upcoming Billionaire Romance, The Billionaire Next Door because have you seen her visual inspiration for Tag Crane???

Clicking on the link opens up a small pop up window for your viewing pleasure ;) But don’t worry, they’re all work friendly images.

20. Ben Barnes. Come on, with those eyes tell me he doesn’t have the right look for a paranormal romance *cough* Dark Hunter series *cough*

SNSBAH Blog Tour: Inarticulate by Eden Summers (Review + Giveaway)

Good morning all! So one of my favorites, Eden Summers is back with a different kind of romance. The hero is mute. Yeah this one was a different kind of read for me.

About Eden:

Eden Summers is a bestselling author of contemporary romance with a side of sizzle and sarcasm.

She lives in Australia with a young family who are well aware she's circling the drain of insanity.

Eden can't resist alpha dominance, dark features and sarcasm in her fictional heroes and loves a strong heroine who knows when to bite her tongue but also serves retribution with a feminine smile on her face.

He's silent - but his touch speaks louder than words.
At first sight, Savannah is drawn to the harsh appeal of a man who refuses to talk to her. Keenan's hard stare is arrogant and unapologetic. The quirk of his sensuous lips is cocky and in control.

But there's more. There's something deeper he's trying to hide behind those steely grey eyes - a slight hint of vulnerability which captures her intrigue.

She'd been warned, told that his silence hides a myriad of lies capable of affecting her career and relationships with loved ones. Only she can't help herself. Testing Keenan's defenses is an addiction she can't deny.

When an author decides to give one of the main characters a disability it’s a nerve wracking thing for the reader almost as much as it is for the author. Especially if the reader (Me) is a big fan of the author (Eden Summers). The set up for Inarticulate revolves around Savannah Hamilton being sent to Seattle to help with a failing hotel deal when she meets the quite literally silent Keenan Black. Yep, Keenan doesn’t speak. At all. But that doesn’t stop Savannah from wanting to get to know the intriguing man and before long, things get very complicated when secrets are revealed and lies are exposed.

Following an accident that nearly robbed him of his hopes for the future, Josh Summers believes life has given him a second chance. Tasty Book Tour: Run to You by Rachel Lacey (Review, Excerpt + Giveaway)

Good morning all! Have you ever read a romance where the main couple isn’t number one in your heart? It’s not a bad thing at all because my number one in this book brought out the tears, tissues, and laughs in the best way!

About Rachel Lacey
Rachel Lacey is a contemporary romance author and semi-reformed travel junkie. She's been climbed by a monkey on a mountain in Japan, gone scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, and camped out overnight in New York City for a chance to be an extra in a movie.

These days, the majority of her adventures take place on the pages of the books she writes. She lives in warm and sunny North Carolina with her husband, son, and a variety of rescue pets.

Moments after meeting the most gorgeous guy ever, Gabby Winters promptly gets stung by a zillion yellow jackets and falls-not gracefully-into a stream. Yup, Ethan Hunter is trouble with a capital "hot," and Gabby definitely needs to keep her distance. Except in the small town of Haven, there's nowhere to hide from Ethan's sexy, infectious grin . . . and all the residents are conspiring against her.

At the center of the town's matchmaking is Ethan's grandmother, who's convinced their relationship is a done deal. Rather than break her heart, Gabby and Ethan find themselves cornered into pretending to be falling in love. The problem: there's serious sizzling attraction between them. And if this charade continues, they won't fool just the entire town - they might fool themselves too . . .

So this was my first time reading author Rachel Lacey and let me tell you, Run to You was a sweet romance that just happened to have a pinch of spice in it. The couple in question had a memorable first meeting. Basically, Gabby Winters gets stung by yellow jackets (Ouch) and then falls into a stream right in front of the sexiest guy she’s ever seen. Sucks right? But then Ethan Hunter had to go and be all sorts of charming with “Trouble” written all over him. And with Ethan’s ailing, matchmaking grandma these two have no other option but to pretend they’re dating for her sake. Like that ever stays platonic right?

Whoever this handsome traveler may be, he is her only hope to escape a terrible fate. But should he agree to escort her to safety, he's in for much more than he bargained for . . .

At first Matthew Mortimer doesn't believe Hippolyta's story, that she's a fabulously wealthy heiress who's been kidnapped. He assumes she's a beggar, an actress, or worse. But once his new travel companion washes the mud from her surprisingly lovely face, and they share a breathtaking kiss, there is no turning back . . .
