Release Date: December 13, 2016

Kane Kavanagh has always had one goal: being the best mixed martial arts fighter alive. With the MMA National Championships in Las Vegas fast approaching, the man they call “Killer” has no intention of letting anyone or anything get in his way. Somehow, though, a feisty opponent has slipped beneath his guard—and stolen his heart. Fiery and passionate, Nora Hannigan is harder to pin down than any rival Kane has faced in the ring. And she isn’t afraid to tell Kane that she wants nothing to do with him.

With her best friend about to marry into the Kavanagh family, Nora has been resisting Kane’s shameless attempts at flirting for months. But after their undeniable chemistry finally takes over, leading to the hottest night of Nora’s life, she’s running scared. There’s a lot about her life Kane doesn’t know, and she won’t be responsible for ending his career. Now Kane’s out to prove that he’s ready for a commitment by winning her heart—and he’s never lost a fight.

Kane and Nora have been dancing around each other for quite some time. Kane wants Nora but he wants to focus on his goal of becoming the best MMA fighter ever. Nora wants Kane but she wants to focus on school and NOT letting her secrets see the light of day. Of course, with an attraction as hot as theirs it’s only a matter of time before they give in and when they do it’s more than either of them expect and Kane isn’t going to let Nora run away from him now that he knows he wants her in his life permanently.

Oy but those Kavanagh men are yummy and Kane is no exception. He’s stubborn, cocky, charming, and totally determined when he sets his mind on something. I liked that while he was cocky, he wasn’t completely sure of Nora. For once he was on shaky ground with a woman and to me it made him more than just a hot MMA fighter. His uncertainty about Nora made him get in touch with his softer side and he became Kane the man, not the fighter. I liked the differences between his professional persona and his personal one.

I readily identified with Nora’s desire to succeed in school and all the stress that went with not having the finances to cover what she needed. I think a lot of people can identify with that but what I liked most about Nora was her passion for helping kids and while I’m not a kid person, I admired her dedication to her goal. With Kane Nora was a tough, hard to get kind of woman but with the kids she was gentle, fun, and stern but sympathetic. It was easy to imagine having a friend with those qualities and that’s why I liked her.

Kane and Nora seem like they have an insta-LUST thing going on in Becoming a Legend but they’ve actually been working towards that since the previous book but it works for these two because neither thinks they want or need a relationship but their chemistry is just so hot that they can’t stay away from each other. The whole book is basically Kane and Nora discovering more about each other through their physical attraction. They’re curious about what makes the other tick and of course they’re curious about why they’re so drawn to one another. With men like the Kavanaghs it’s easy for women to get lost in all that testosterone and alpha-ness, but Nora manages to hold her own and even stand out among the very few women in the Kavanagh family. I think with Nora, Kane manages to show a soft side that not even his family knows about and that completely balances out his tougher side.

To me, a Kavanagh book isn’t a Kavanagh book without the rest of the family. Their bickering, teasing, loving support is what brings a lot of the warmth and gives an insight into each character’s childhood and what place they hold in a family that loves fiercely and fights the same way. It was fun to see such a powerful man like Kane cower at the thought of breaking one of his mother’s rules or making her mad. There was such a deep love and respect for the Kavanagh matriarch that gave Kane more depth and made him more than just an alpha male who made his living with his fists. It’s easy to get lost in a story like Becoming a Legend because the characters draw you in with their personalities and conflicts. I just get so excited whenever there’s a new book out in this series because I know it’s going to be a good time.

Final Verdict: Kane’s story is another great addition to the Kavanagh Legends series, he and Nora were a couple worth knowing and I enjoyed their romance.
