Release Day Blast: Foolproof Love by Katee Robert (Review + Giveaway)

Yes! Epic score! Katee Robert has a new series with Brazen and yes, it was a good one!

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Katee Robert learned to tell her stories at her grandpa’s knee. She found romance novels at age twelve and it changed her life.

When not writing sexy contemporary and speculative fiction romance novels, she spends her time playing imaginary games with her wee ones, driving her husband batty with what-if questions, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

Bull rider Adam Meyer put Devil’s Falls in his rearview mirror years ago and hasn’t stopped running since. Now he’s back—temporarily, if he has any say about it. Restless, he finds himself kissing the sexiest girl in town…and agreeing to be the fake boyfriend in her little revenge scheme.

Jules Rodrigez isn’t interested in the role of town spinster. Being seen with a hell raiser like Adam is the perfect way to scandalize the residents, make her ex jealous, and prove she’s a sexy, desirable woman. And if their plan includes ridiculously hot sex—in public, of course—all the better.

But this thing between them has an expiration date. Putting down roots isn’t in Adam’s blood, and Jules’s roots in Devil’s Falls are bedrock deep. He’ll leave, even if it rips out his heart. But this time, he’s not sure he’ll survive it…

Bull rider Adam Meyer is temporarily back in Devil's Falls and plans on high tailing it out of there again as soon as he's able but in the meantime he helps Jules Rodriguez shake off a persistent ex by posing as her boyfriend. In addition, Jules gets to shake up her good girl reputation and have a little fun while she's at it. The problem is, these two have more than just an arrangement happening between them and when Adam decides it's time to go, Jules may not want him to.

For starters, Adam isn’t half as cocky as he appears, and I loved that about him. He tried to fill what was missing in his life with the notion that he was a restless “leaver” like his father. Denial was his middle name through most of the book but Katee Robert really sold me on Adam’s feelings of restlessness and the sometimes suffocating feel of a small town.

Jules was silly. Sometimes I liked her, other times I wanted to slap the stupid out of her. I get that she was supposed to be a mix of small town naivety and sultry siren but she just couldn’t pull off the sultry siren part. She really was just a “good girl” and whenever she tried to be what she wasn’t it didn’t work and made her a bit sillier than I could handle. Her devotion to her small town was admirable but I never got the sense that she really understood how Adam and even her sleazy ex felt about a town so small it only had like, one stop light. I think had she truly understood how someone with bigger dreams and a broader view of life saw her town, Jules’ ex wouldn’t have hurt her so bad. I did love how she took the initiative and started something trendy in her small town: A cat café! Now, I’m a dog person myself but a cat café was the icing on the cake for me.

Adam and Jules were at different stages of their respective lives when Foolproof Love began. Jules knew where she wanted to be but Adam was still trying to find out where he belonged so that caused a bit of friction between them both. What started off as a plan to get her ex and the nosey town off her back turned into a red hot affair which I have to repeat, a RED. HOT. AFFAIR. Brazen books are known for being on the steamier side but when you add an author like Katee Robert, well, socks are gonna get rocked right off because Adam spares no expense talking dirty and he already had major brownie points for how much he loved his momma.

So Jules had numerous cousins but I really liked Daniel. He seemed like a pretty cool guy, not too overprotective of Jules but not too careless with her either. Kind of a well balanced guy. However my absolute favorite secondary character was Jules best friend Aubrey! She just cracked me up every time she was on the pages; she just vibrated with life and sass that honestly eclipsed anyone else in a scene with her, including Jules. Since her book is next I’m just going to say I hope that the firecracker Aubrey that appeared in this book, is still the same Aubrey in her own book because she’s just fun!

Foolproof Love didn’t take long to read, a few hours at most because the writing just flowed easily from one scene to the next and Robert knows not to get caught up in unnecessary scenes or characters so I didn’t have a problem finishing this book in one day. It’s also Katee Robert so, yeah, not gonna lie, I was determined not to let anyone get in my way.

Final Verdict: A pretty solid start to a new series, Foolproof Love had an Opposites Attract theme with some really sexy scenes. I couldn’t get enough of Adam but sometimes I stalled a bit on Jules. I LOVED the fact that she owned a cat café but I’m an animal person so that could just be me being biased. This book sets up the next quite nicely and yeah, I’m already greedy for the next book.
