ALL'S FAIR IN LOVE
Battlefields and barrooms hold much more interest for Edward Westover, Duke of Strathmore, than a little girl's fondness for dolls and lace. When he takes possession of his enemy's estate, everything that villain held dear-including his daughter-belongs to Edward. Hire a governess, arrange a dowry, give a few reassurances, and be off on his way-that's Edward's plan. But he's in for the shock of his life. For his new ward is a beautiful, impetuous, and utterly irresistible woman . . .

. . . AND WAR
Kate Benton is stunned. Who is this arrogant, infuriating man who's invited himself into her home and taken over her life? Her vow: to do everything in her power to convince him to leave her-and Brambly House-alone. Yet as chilly days melt into sultry nights, Kate sees glimpses of kindness underneath Edward's cool façade . . . and a passionate nature that takes her breath away. There's so much she doesn't know about this man. But does she dare trust this devilish duke with her heart?

After taking control of an enemy’s estate and his daughter, the reluctant Duke of Strathmore, Edward Westover intends on meeting the girl, providing her with a dowry for when she grows up, hiring a governess and then leaving her to the care of others. However he’s in for the shock of his life when he arrives at Brambly House with a doll for the girl he’s responsible for and finds that Kate Benton isn’t a little girl but a full grown woman with her own mind and her own ideas of just what Edward can do with his newly acquired guardianship.

Release Date: March 29, 2016

As the secret author of racy romances, Lady Esme Hawkins goes to great lengths to protect her family’s honor. Which is why she carefully disguises herself before entering a notorious bordello to do research. But when Esme comes face-to-face with a brooding Highland bodyguard, she can’t easily refuse a harmless kiss . . . a kiss that inflames desires ripped from the pages of her novels. Acting on them, however, would risk revealing Esme’s identity—and the fact that she’s engaged to another man.

As a Highland Knight sworn to protect the crown, Camden McLeod never expected to follow his client into a bordello—nor could he anticipate meeting a bright, innocent lass with lush lips and eyes the color of the sea. Instantly, Cam knows he must possess her. But to do so, he’ll need to give up his rakish ways, embrace his role as heir to his despised father, and snuff out a deadly threat to his brothers in arms. By comparison, winning Esme away from her insipid fiancé will be pure pleasure.

Lady Esme Hawkins secretly writes racy romance novels and is working on a new book so she heads to a brothel to do research where she meets Highland guard Camden McLeod while he’s on duty. A kiss later and he’s fascinated with her only to find out she’s engaged to another man. Cam and Esme’s interest in one another is tested by his reputation, her family’s and a threat to Cam’s fellow knights. Not to mention that little hobby Esme has…

Waiting on Wednesday

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is: Tell Me You Crave Me by Joya Ryan

I love Joya Ryan! I’ve only read four of her books (Sad I know) and I have quite a few to get to before I’m caught up but I NEVER pass up an opportunity to read the books she writes for Brazen. They’re hot, they’re witty and they’ve got a bit of angst just to sweeten the deal. Yum!

So, the one other thing I love just as much as reading? Listening to music! This week's quote: Comes from Taking the Score by Kate Meader.
Okay so if you’re a pet parent you’ve had this kind of scene with your pet. Brody has forced his secretary Emma to move in with him temporarily while she gets her life together. Unfortunately she comes with an ill tempered, vindictive cat named Kevin. Brody being a good guy is trying to win him (and Emma) over but Kevin just isn’t having it at the moment.

What We Watched: Oh the Feels! The FEELS!

Okay so another of my hobbies is watching television shows. I don't do this as often because I really can't stand reality shows and that's all there is now. However, there are a few shows that have snagged my attention and while these weekly posts aren't reviews per say, I thought it might be fun to share my thoughts on each week's episodes.

My tv partner is always Mr. Pud and he ALWAYS has something to say either in a look, gesture or in simply taking some of my snacks for himself.

I hope you'll share with me YOUR thoughts on not just these shows but your own favorites too!

*** Just a warning though. Given that these are not reviews but commentaries on each show, expect SPOILERS.

My thoughts for the week of: March 21, 2016

I think this was the week of the FEELS. I mean epic feels guys. At least for me.

Favorite Character Friday: My love!

Favorite Character Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Adria's Romance Reviews that gives readers a chance to celebrate their favorite characters!

Why a weekly meme? Because really, with millions of books out there and more coming out every week, characters are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

How it works: Every week you pick one of your favorite characters and tell every one who it is, what book they're from and WHY they're one of your favorite characters. Be sure to include the blurb and book cover as well! Share the love and maybe someone will read that same book and see why that character is one of your favorites! Unlike the Book Boyfriend meme (which was a great meme), your Favorite Character Fridays choice can be male or female!

Be sure to link back to Adria's Romance Reviews and share the link!

Goodness but my allergies almost made me forget this week's FCF! I just HAD to give more attention to my latest book boyfriend...

Review: The Study of Seduction by Sabrina Jeffries

If I were a character in this book I would have definitely had a journal with the name Edwin Barlow written all over it. I’m not even going to lie, I would have totally written things like “I Edwin Barlow” or something equally as silly. Basically, I have been in love with this character ever since his first scene in If the Viscount Falls. There was just something about the seemingly uptight, stoic man that had me curious and he certainly didn’t disappoint in The Study of Seduction!

Format: .mobi (A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. )
Publisher: Pocket Books
Release Date: March 22, 2016

When Edwin Barlow, the Earl of Blakeborough, agrees to help his best friend’s impetuous ward, Lady Clarissa Lindsey, in her time of need, he knows he’s in for trouble. He’s been hunting for someone to wed, and she’ll just get in the way. Although captivated by the witty, free-spirited beauty, he fears she’d be all wrong as a wife...if she would even take such a gruff cynic for her husband. Yet he wants nothing more than to have her for his own.

Clarissa has no intention of marrying anyone—not Edwin, whom she’s sure would be an overbearing husband, and certainly not the powerful French diplomat stalking her. But when matters escalate with the diplomat, she chooses Edwin’s gallant offer of a marriage between friends in hopes that it will deter her stalker. She expects nothing more than an amiable union, but their increasingly tempestuous kisses prove more than she bargained for. When her stalker’s vow to expose the lovers’ deepest secrets threatens to destroy their blossoming attraction, will their tenuous bond withstand public ruin, or will Edwin lose all that’s important to him to protect his bride?

Basically, Edwin Barlow, the Earl of Blakeborough agrees to help his friend’s cousin, Lady Clarissa Lindsey discourage a persistent French diplomat who doesn’t understand the word “no.” Unfortunately that suitor isn’t scared off by his presence so Edwin does the only thing he can think of: He proposes marriage to Clarissa. Their marriage of convenience starts off bumpy but soon enough Edwin and Clarissa start learning things about each other that strengthen their acquaintance and give them a shot at falling in love.

Review: A Midnight Dance by Lila DiPasqua

In the interest of being completely fair, the story rocked but the main characters? Not so much.

Format: .mobi (A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. )
Publisher: Lila DiPasqua (Self Published)
Release Date: October 25, 2015

Inspired by the tale of Cinderella, a steamy historical romance that offers a glass slipper, a dangerous deception, and an impoverished beauty determined to find her handsome prince...and make him pay.

Born into wealth, Sabine Laurent and her twin sister lived a life of luxury, their father's prestigious theater frequented by royalty and aristocracy alike. And Sabine dreamed of her own prince charming-the devastatingly handsome Jules de Moutier.

That was before the loss of her sister and her family's fall from grace-a disaster Sabine blames on the Moutier family. Now, with her father's death, she's inherited his sizable debt and the responsibility of caring for his spoiled long-time mistress and her two wastrel daughters. But with the help of Sabine's eccentric friends-the balance of her father's acting troupe-she plans to get very close to her old infatuation, seduce the rake-and make away with a fortune.

Resisting Jules's skillful mouth and tantalizing touch is not as easy as Sabine supposed. And soon she must decide whether her desire for vengeance is greater than her desire for her one and only prince...

A Midnight Dance put me in a difficult position when it came time to write a review. On the one hand, the plot and execution of it was awesome! There were elements of mystery, danger, passion, angst and adventure. I loved the hotter than hot retelling of the classic fairytale, Cinderella because it wasn’t a play-by-play of the story most people know. Aside from a few obvious similarities, author Lila DiPasqua took her version to a darker, more complex place where human emotions sometimes clouded the truth even when it’s in big bold letters.

The story goes that Sabine Laurent lived in luxery due to her father’s success as a theater owner. She even thought she would marry the very aristocratic Jules de Moutier. Then the loss of her sister and her family’s fall from grace saw Sabine inheriting her deceased father’s enormous debt and having to care for his silly mistress and her useless daughters. Sabine blames her family’s misfortunes on the Moutier family and decides to seduce her former dream man and steal a fortune from him.

Review: Bad Romance by Jen McLaughlin

Nope. No, no, nopety, nope, nope. This didn’t work for me at all.

Seven years in the army will change a guy. But after a shoulder wound ends his career as a sniper, Jackson Worthington finds himself back home, fighting a battle that's all too familiar: keeping his hands off Lily Hastings. She's still her rich daddy's little angel, innocent, impossibly lovely, as squeaky-clean as Jackson is dirty. And she's still his stepsister—forbidden but not forgotten, not after the soul-melting kiss that got him kicked out of the house at eighteen. He couldn't resist her then. How the hell can he resist her now?

Lily is about to marry a man she doesn't love, and commit to a high-stress job she hates, all to please the father who controls every waking moment of her life. On top of everything, her teenage crush is back, with a sleek, chiseled body and a trace of the rebellious boy whose lips sealed her fate. Jackson's timing couldn't be worse . . . or better. Because Lily's all grown up, too. She's aching for another taste. And for the first time, she's ready to be a bad girl.

I was all set to read a “taboo” romance with step siblings in an understandably complicated situation with the odds stacked against them.

What I got was a whiny, spineless, immature brat with a penchant for jerking the hero around and waaaaay too much drama. In fact, I may have spotted a llama roaming around somewhere (As in the drama llama).
