Favorite Character Friday: Mitch Foster!

Favorite Character Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Adria's Romance Reviews that gives readers a chance to celebrate their favorite characters!

Why a weekly meme? Because really, with millions of books out there and more coming out every week, characters are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

How it works: Every week you pick one of your favorite characters and tell every one who it is, what book they're from and WHY they're one of your favorite characters. Be sure to include the blurb and book cover as well! Share the love and maybe someone will read that same book and see why that character is one of your favorites! Unlike the Book Boyfriend meme (which was a great meme), your Favorite Character Fridays choice can be male or female!

Favorite Character: Mitch Foster

Book Title & Author: Shatter by Joan Swan

Why is this character your favorite (Feel free to include a favorite quote or scene)? Okay so Mitch has been around since the first book of the Phoenix Rising series because his sister Alyssa was the heroine of that book and I just fell in love with how sarcastically witty this guy was! It was way more than the usual brother picking on his sister; it was how he effortlessly fell into harping on Teague and later Teague’s former firefighting team. I can’t resist a character with this kind of humor and Mitch ALWAYS brought the fun into the scenes he was in but I wanted to know the other sides of this character and his book definitely showed that there was more to him than just his snarky humor. Of course, his defining trait, his humor was always present even in life or death situations which always serve to lighten tense scenes.

I have SOOOOO many quotes that are my favorite so it was really hard to pick just one so I picked two, one from when Mitch first appeared in Fever:

He didn't have to beckon the others away from the inferno; they automatically climbed into the cab of the truck. But Teague didn't miss the suspicion on Mitch's face as he slid into the bench seat alongside Luke.

"Why am I the only one who doesn't find the fact that he can hot-wire a car surprising?" he asked.

"Long story," Alyssa muttered, sitting on Mitch's knee, holding the dash to balance herself as Teague turned onto the rutted back road.

"Well, everything about this is a long fucking story, isn't it?"

     "Mitch," she scolded.

"Excuse me for swearing, Lys. You've only uncovered some festering conspiracy that my gut tells me is way beyond anything I've ever seen and, oh, by the way, I just killed a guy." His voice rose until it vibrated through the truck cab. "Sorry if I'm a little upset."

And of course from his own book, Shatter there were TONS of quotes to choose from but I’ll settle for one from the beginning of the book:

He started the motor and crawled toward shore, holding his speed down for silence and warmth. Huddled behind the windshield, he pulled his phone from his pocket and hit the speed dial for Kai Ryder.

      “What’s new?” Kai answered.

“Genital hypothermia,” Mitch said. “My nuts are buddying up with my kidneys.”

“You have two? Balls, I mean. I thought you were down at least one.”

“Shut the fuck up. How are Lys and Brady?” he asked, hating himself for missing the birth of his first nephew.

“Great. You’d never know Alyssa had a baby last week, and Brady and I are totally bonding.”

“I hate you.” He was only half joking.

Kai laughed, the asshole. “Was it worth it?”

“No.” His teeth were starting to chatter. “No sign of the boyfriend. No friends. No activities. She rows in the morning, works all day, goes to the gym, runs with her dog.”
