She’s an investigative reporter who lives to uncover the truth.
Feisty television host, Savanna Bunkett, exposes government coverups on her award-winning show, The Bunk Stops Here. When she digs into a rumor about a top secret government project that's producing “super soldiers” for the president, she suddenly finds herself on an assassin’s hit list.
He's the man who knows the truth.
Navy SEAL Lieutenant Trace Hunter is the only soldier to survive Project 24. After refusing a direct order from the president, he was branded a traitor, and his career imploded after the sexy reporter turned him into a national headline. He now works undercover for Shadow Force International, a secret group of former SEALs helping those who have no where else to turn, using his enhanced skills to fight for justice and protect the innocent. His first assignment? Protect Savanna from the one man who wants them both dead—the president.
One wrong move and they’ll be silenced forever.
Helping Savanna is the last thing Trace wants to do, but her unwavering determination to expose the president's dark truth matches his own. She's his one chance to set the record straight and he’s her only chance at survival. When their mutual enemy closes in, can they put the past behind them and trust each other? Even if it means losing their hearts in the process? Or will secrets, lies, and forbidden passions cost them everything?
Cover ups, intrigue, life and death situations and romance? Yes please!
Investigative television reporter Savanna Bunkett has made a name for herself by exposing government cover ups. Usually she’s right about everything she reports but when she starts uncovering information about a secret government that produces “super soldiers” for the president, Savanna not only finds out she was wrong about a previous report but she’s also made herself a target for an assassin.
Enter Navy SEAL Lieutenant Trace Hunter who had his life turned upside down, twice. The first time was when he survived Project 24 but refused to carry out a direct order from the president and was branded a traitor. The second time was when Savanna Bunkett reported his treason to the entire country. Now Trace is working for Shadow Force International and his first mission is to protect Savanna and help her uncover information to stop the president from carrying out his ultimate plan.
I love authors who don’t waste time with too much background information or flashbacks and Misty Evans falls into that category. Fatal Truth took off without a hitch, dropping me into the middle of Trace Hunter’s dangerous life. From there Evans gave enough bits and pieces to put two and two together about Trace’s past and present situation. No fuss, no drawn out flashbacks, just the facts and just how I like it. I got sucked in immediately.
The groundwork for the story was quickly and efficiently laid in a way that made sense and added to the mystery of what exactly was worth killing for. Some of the plot was predictable but there were a few curve balls thrown in just to add some unpredictability. Trace and Savanna’s physical chemistry provided a nice balance to the action scenes but didn’t weigh down the entire story. Their romance wasn’t the main focus of Fatal Truth and it worked well for me. I mean, they were being hunted by one of the most powerful men in the world and that was the number one priority.
Fatal Truth had quite the interesting supporting cast too. Savanna’s sister Parker was pretty neat and I would love a story for her, I love super women like her so naturally I gravitated towards Parker. Then there was the rest of Shadow Force International, those employees who, by the way all have code names that just add to the mystery and my curiosity.
Final Verdict: Fatal Truth wasn’t a bad way to spend my time. The action, mystery and romance kept me entertained the whole way through and the characters were interesting enough to have me wanting to read the next book in the series.
