Good morning everyone! Who's up for a little romantic suspense today? Naima is a new to me author and I have to say I truly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book already!
Now, she spends her time creating stories of unique men and women who experience the dizzying heights of passion and the tender heat of love. She is the wife to Superman - or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent - and mother to the most awesome kids ever.
They all live in perfect, domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.

Under his protection and in his bed…
For Fallon Wayland, birthdays are just another reminder of her looming spinsterhood. This year is shaping up to be no different. Unfairly fired from her job, dumped by her boyfriend, and oh yes, witnessing the murder of a high-ranking lieutenant in the local crime family… Yeah, birthdays suck.
Ever since a disastrous, hot-as-hell kiss years ago, soldier-turned-security specialist Shane Roarke has avoided his baby sister’s reckless—and gorgeous—best friend. Yet when her life is threatened after she witnesses a gang hit, he insists on protecting her…even if she objects.
The two are forced to hole up in a safe house. Alone. Passion long denied erupts between them, burning away their inhibitions. But even as layers—and clothes—are peeled away, danger closes in. Shane and Fallon might finally have a chance at love…if they survive long enough to see it.
Geez I’ve never seen one character fight so dang hard to keep their hands off of another! Seriously, I thought Shane was going to explode from a severe case of blue balls! I couldn’t feel sorry for him though, he was doing it to himself, the silly guy. However, all the waiting paid off in terms of the steaminess of Shane and Fallon’s physical relationship. Author Naima Simone knew how to take a years old attraction and build its intensity to a near nuclear level. The anticipation of Shane and Fallon’s eventual hookup drove me insane. These two could power a city on the sexual tension between them! In this case, the waiting was a very good thing. Forget sweet words and tender lovin’, Shane Roarke does dirty talk and dirty deeds like no one’s business! Fallon was one lucky girl.
And I say girl because that’s what I saw Fallon as, a girl, not so much a woman. Witness to Passion doesn’t waste time tossing a twenty five year old into a whirlwind of danger and that was enough to make anyone just a bit irrational. But Fallon seemed to kind of stall there for most of the book, making Shane’s job of protecting her more difficult with her stubbornness to accept that she needed help yet her unwillingness to really do anything proactive. I was hoping she’d take more control of her situation by at least demanding Shane teach her to use a gun instead of just hiding behind him for protection. She was brave enough to demand other, more personal things from him I figured shooting lessons would be a piece of cake to ask for. I kept going ”Come on Fallon, don’t be a damsel in distress, get on the ball and ask the man to teach you some basics!” but alas, it didn’t happen. In fact, the only time Fallon showed any physical courage was towards the end so that was a bit of a disappointment.
Fallon wasn’t a waste of time though. She was funny and wasn’t prone to hysterics (which is such a turn off as a reader), she was blunt with Shane, none of that girly, over the top shyness. This girl wanted Shane to know that she was down for whatever he wanted and apparently, wherever he wanted. I say you go girl cause a man like that would have intimidated the crap out of me!
Witness to Passion also gets high marks from me for the level of suspense and danger that the author put Shane and Fallon through. There really wasn’t a moment where things got too predictable. The near misses between Shane, Fallon and the villain had my heart pounding and my pulse racing which is exactly what a romantic suspense should do. The cast of characters, including Shane’s co-workers were veiled in mystery and really nothing gets me more curious than mysterious characters. Except maybe detective Tristan Scott. He really gets put through the ringer in this one and I’m wondering if he’ll have his own book. It would be interesting to see how he is after what happened to him here.
Did I mention that Witness to Passion is a really steamy book? In case I didn’t, I’m mentioning it now. There’s a lot of raw passion between Shane and Fallon that burns up the pages. With all that pent up lust the author created, it was a surprise that my e-reader didn’t burst into flames.
All in all, Witness to Passion is a solid book. I had issues with Fallon’s damsel in distress routine but it wasn’t enough to make me stop reading or enjoying the overall story line.
Final Verdict: Can we get Tristan's book next? Please?
