I am on a romantic suspense high right now. It's like I can't get enough of the sub-genre. As long as the heroine is in on the action of course ;) This book certainly delivered too.

After a grueling assignment with the black ops force known as the Alliance, Weston Brown is craving downtime. Instead, he's pulled into his deadliest operation, in the one place he never wanted to see again. No-nonsense and so damn hot, Lexi Turner lied to get him to her mountain clinic in Pakistan. But the threat is terrifyingly real.
Lexi has been asking too many questions, drawing the wrong kind of attention. As soon as she lays eyes on West, she can tell he's quiet—yet tough—and has a rescue complex which will come in handy for going up against the world's most ruthless gunrunners.
Cut off from the rest of the Alliance, Lexi and West navigate the brutal terrain and a primal sexual attraction. Sticking around has never been West's way, but now he'll use every resource to keep Lexi by his side, safe from a killer who leaves no loose ends behind.
When Lexi Turner’s curiosity leads to a discovery of dangerous activity in the mountains of Pakistan, she realizes that her life is suddenly on the line. Sending a coded message for help through the right channels should have been the end of it, but since she used her father’s name and connections to get that message through, she’s in hot water with the two deadly men who answered her plea for help.
Weston Brown has seen a lot of things in his life, but nothing prepared him for going back to Pakistan and facing off with a mouthy, secretive woman who apparently knows how to shoot a gun. Not the most patient man, and used to giving orders to obedient men, West isn’t used to being challenged and questioned at every turn, especially by a pint sized woman who seems to have no fear of him. After getting separated from his mission partner, West and Lexi have to work together to survive and stop what might be a move to start a massive war.
After reading the first book in the Bad Boys Undercover series, I was less than impressed with the lack of female participation in the action scenes but Falling Hard certainly made up for it with Lexi Turner! Goodness but I loved that woman! Gutsy, a real ball buster and calm in the face of danger, she chose to work in a hostile country but she learned to survive by using her intelligence, and a gun. That woman took the initiative and did whatever she had to in order to relay information that she stumbled upon and dealt with the consequences of lying about her identity to get her message through. I loved that she wasn’t intimidated by West when she met him or anytime after that. She wasn’t a character to follow blindly; she needed answers and demanded respect from him. Lexi was MY hero! Gotta love a woman who can go toe to toe with a man like West.
Of course the characters are only part of what I enjoyed about this book. The plot of Falling Hard gave me enough details to immerse myself in the story without getting too technical or political. It was believable without overwhelming me as a reader. The main focus was on the mission and the dangers associated with it. While West and Lexi’s romance came in second, I didn’t mind because author Helenkay Dimon did such a great job with giving me a genuine adventure, complete with secrets, spies and unknown enemies. When West and Lexi were the focus, they kept me entertained with their bickering and sarcastic banter which hid a strong physical connection.
I’m glad I picked up the first book on a whim because if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have been so darn curious to read Falling Hard and then I wouldn’t have fallen in love with this story. For me, this one is THE book to beat in terms of female characters. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has in store for readers.
Final Verdict: Lexi Turner, you were one fun character!
