Her job is to stay hidden.
Too bad he can’t take his eyes off her.
Soldier-for-hire Ethan Hayes is the youngest member of an elite mercenary team. While he may be affectionately nicknamed the rookie, the skills Ethan honed as a Marine make him seriously dangerous. But when a sudden distress call puts him in close quarters with a rival, he finds more than his field skills being put to the test.
Juliet Mason stands out as the master thief in a covert group of assassins and spies. Her latest mission is personal—and it’s gone horribly wrong. Juliet may prefer to work alone, but when the rookie comes to her aid in snowy Eastern Europe, she can’t deny they make a good team. But even up against a powerful enemy, their most challenging task yet may be fighting the passion between them...
Ahhhh! I loved, loved, LOVED this book! I haven't read Elle Kennedy prior to this and now I just want to kick my own butt for taking so long! I have found a new romantic suspense author to love!
A romantic suspense should have an action move/thriller type feel, an air of unpredictability. This book had it in spades! Two separate groups of mercenaries/assassins being lead by former flames turned angry and bitter enemies (or not, I'm still not clear on that which fascinates me to know end)? Yes please!
As for the story's hero, Ethan? Can I just take a moment to sigh over him one more time? He is definitely going on my Book Boyfriend list. This guy has what it takes to make my list: He's smart, tough, loyal, funny and yes, dangerous. Heck, all of the characters in Midnight Pursuits are dangerous, it's just that Ethan has that extra dose of charm and a deceptively calm exterior that can morph into a seriously deadly mercenary in less than three seconds.
Ethan and Juliet have such great chemistry throughout the book too. Starting as antagonistic with an underlying sexual tension, their relationship grows into wary admiration to a lust filled quasi-friendship that both are reluctant to admit has the beginnings of a real emotional connection.
Elle Kennedy has such a way with description that it was easy to picture the story being played out before my eyes. The attention to story details, characters and dialogue was evident in every page and made the story flow smoothly. I loved the additional characters as well, they made the world the author created more believable and gave me a better idea of how the inner relationships of each group worked and how close these people were to one another.
The only hiccup with Midnight Pursuits was purely mine. Since I came into this series right in the middle, I was lost for a few pages as to who was who, who was with who and who did what in the groups. A problem I wouldn't have had if I hadn't been such a dork and just bought the previous books in the series first (I will remedy this as soon as possible).
Final Verdict: Midnight Pursuits is dark, dangerous and downright sexy. If you're looking for a fast paced, action packed thrill of a ride, then look no further!
