Tatiana Stone has worked hard to establish herself as one of Sector Four's most skilled crafters. All she wants is peace--but the sins of her father haunt her. He ruled the sector as a petty tyrant before the O'Kane takeover, and plenty of people harbor bitter memories of his cruelty. Especially now that Tatiana's beloved baby sister has fallen in with a man who wants to start a revolution.
Zan failed his boss once, and it won't happen again. So when Dallas O'Kane asks him to defuse the rebellion brewing in the sector, he'll do whatever it takes to get the job done--including seduce Tatiana. It's the perfect opportunity to get closer to the pretty crafter and complete his mission. But what he discovers is a fiery, passionate woman--and an affair that could destroy them both.
I had no idea what a dystopian romance was, nor did I realize I was reading one until I finished Beyond Possession by Kit Rocha.
It has taken blood, sweat, tears, and heavy sacrifices from Tatiana Stone to establish herself as one of the top crafters in Sector Four. As one of the daughters of the former ruler, Tatiana knows her father was a tyrant, not a leader and that the people he ruled over still hold a grudge even after the O’Kane takeover. Now, Tatiana’s younger sister has fallen for a man who wants to start a revolution that could get a lot of people killed. Including Tatiana and her sister.
When Zan is asked by his boss Dallas O’Kane to stop a brewing revolution in Sector Four, Zan knows it’s his chance to make up for a past failure. He’s willing to do anything, including seducing Tatiana to make sure that the rebellion is stopped before it even begins but he didn’t know that he would fall for Tatiana, or that he might have to choose between duty and desire.
Dark, gritty and sensual, Beyond Possession doesn’t mess around when it comes to Dystopian Romance. This is no sugar coated, flowery prose that takes place in a dystopian setting. This is edge of your seat suspense, raw emotions and passionate sex. Did I mention I loved it? Not that I would want to swap out all my sub genres for an e-reader filled with dystopian but I think a light sprinkling of them, specifically by author Kit Roca would make for a well balanced romance collection. Sometimes I’m just craving something a bit more edgy and well, rough.
To me it takes some incredible talent, not to mention top notch people skills to be an author, but to be part of a writing team? That’s a whole new level of awesome. Donna Herren and Bree Bridges, the duo behind the pseudonym Kit Rocha delivered a novella worthy of their New York Times and USA Today bestseller status. Beyond Possession turned my reading experience upside down, sideways and backwards in the best way.
I will admit to being a little more than lost being that I’ve never read this series before now. I didn’t know any of the characters, their connections, heck, I didn’t even know what had happened in Sector Four or anything about the world Rocha created. At times it was frustrating and if it had been any other book I probably would have stopped reading but it was because Beyond Possession was so attention grabbing that I just would not put it down!
Zan and Tatiana are amazingly flawed but relatable characters, they have their own personalities and even though they’re attracted to each other, they’re also at odds through most of the story. Zan and Tatiana want different things for themselves and the plans they had didn’t include meeting someone they want to spend time with. I enjoyed the conflicts that they faced as individuals and as a couple, it made them stronger, it made their happy ending more satisfying.
Final Verdict: Would I consider reading the previous books in the series? Sure!
