New York Times bestselling author Alexandra Ivy quenches your thirst for illicit desire with this seductive tale of the Sentinels—outcast humans with the ability to tread the line between life and death—and pleasure and pain…
Ph.D student Angela Locke has a crush on her sexy professor, Dr. Nikolo Bartrev.
When she learns he’s actually a Sentinel with extraordinary powers, she joins forces with him to catch a psychopath.
But soon, their hottest pursuit is of each other...
The first time Ph. D student Angela Locke set eyes on her professor, it was lust at first sight for her. Hesitant and shy, she had to settle for having him in her fantasies until one night when her world was turned upside down and her “ordinary” professor confessed to being something more than human.
Dr. Nikolo Bartrev isn’t what he seems, he’s a Sentinel, a human with extraordinary abilities on a mission to hunt down a dangerous psychopath who has targeted Angela. When Angela discovers the reason behind Nikolo’s presence in her life, she never dreamed it would throw her world into chaos or that it would lead her to an intense attraction and passion.
Don’t hate me; Out of Control was the first Sentinel book that I’ve read. I’m very ashamed of myself because I really liked the world that author Alexandra Ivy created! I’m not unfamiliar with Ivy’s work, I’ve been a fan of her Guardians of Eternity series for years (Team Levet baby!) but as any romance novel fan can attest to, it’s an expensive hobby.
Out of Control is a novella, part of the Predatory anthology, now being released on its own, and it gave me a sweet, sexy sample of the world in which the Sentinel series takes place and just like a chocolate starved woman, I definitely want more.
Nikolo may have been the hero of the story but my attention was constantly being drawn to his friend and fellow Sentinel Arel. There’s just something about a mysterious “playboy” who is obviously hiding something that draws me in. I do hope he gets his own story soon.
My only issue was with Angela. She was a bit wimpy and a touch too naïve for her age. I get that she was shocked for a bit when she found out she was caught in the middle of a fight between Nikolo and the psychopath he was hunting but dang woman, do your best to snap out of it and fight back! She was just so easy to read and not much of a challenge for Nikolo as a love interest. I prefer heroines with more backbone both in battle and in their personal lives. Why did Angela have to make things so easy for Nikolo with all her stuttering and stammering? I did like that she was a highly intelligent woman with a curious and practical mind. She wasn’t a hysterical woman which would have just killed it for me completely.
Final Verdict: Overall, Out of Control whet my appetite for more of the Sentinel series and as soon as I can, I’m going to buy the first book in the series. Hopefully in time for the next full length novel.
