Review: One Night of Sin by Elle Kennedy

Format: .mobi (provided by publisher in exchange for an honest review)
Release Date: August 4, 2014

When it comes to sex, good girl Skyler Thompson always plays it safe, choosing stable and sedate over wild and thrilling. She doesn’t do one-night-stands, but one look at sinfully sexy Gage Holt and she’s willing to reconsider. He makes her want to be bad for once in her life, and she’s prepared to take what she wants.

Danger follows former MMA fighter Gage Holt like a shadow. Despite his successes as part owner of Sin, an exclusive nightclub in Boston, Gage can’t risk getting involved with a woman, especially one as sweet as Skyler. Still, he can’t resist a taste—and it’s so damn good he has to see her again.

As addicted as he is to her, Gage knows there’s no future for him and Skyler—not with his past lurking in the dark corners of an MMA cage. But Skyler’s tougher than she looks, and she’s ready to fight for her man.

I’m totally fanning myself right now. One Night of Sin is a hell of a novella! If you’re looking for a short but super hot read then this is it!

One Night of Sin was a great combination of lusty characters and interesting plot. I felt like I really connected with both characters in the story and that rarely happens. Gage’s tough life struck a nerve with me and I felt sorry for the big guy. As badass as he is, he’s got a protective instinct and a self sacrificing personality to go with it. Skylar wasn’t too much of a good girl that she went into TSTL (Too Stupid To Live) territory or got on my nerves. She was more of a nice girl who wanted to have a good, dirty time. She wasn’t a pushover though, she knows when to beg and when to step back and let Gage figure out that he was an idiot. Both characters weren’t over the top with their personalities, there’s just enough differences between them to present an obstacle.

So many times with novellas I feel cheated because I know through a rare few that it is possible to give readers a full novel experience on a novella length. Thankfully with One Night of Sin, I didn’t. Gage and Skylar each had their well developed backgrounds that told me a lot about each of them yet, it didn’t drag the story down and there wasn’t a lot of time dedicated to hashing out Skylar’s problems with her stepfather which left more time for Gage and Skylar’s relationship.

That relationship? One seriously hot one night stand that turns into something more (with a lot of hot, sweaty sex in between). And if you like dirty talkers like I do, then this is one novella you don’t want to miss. That Gage is one sexy dirty talker. I’m not into MMA fighters but I sure as hell made an exception for him! So much so that I may consider giving other books like this a chance. It depends on the author and I’m starting to discover that Elle Kennedy sure knows how to write dirty, sexy heroes and heroines who are more than a match for them.

I’m so happy I caught One Night of Sin because it’s the first in a new series and already I’m curious about Gage’s buddies and how the author will top this very sexy novella.

Final Verdict: Pick up this novella and see for yourself how author Elle Kennedy creates a tight storyline, complete with likable characters and off the charts chemistry.
