Subject: Navy SEAL Lieutenant Dominic Castillo
Mission: Protect—not seduce!—his sexy target
Dominic Castillo loves his SEAL team like brothers—except one, who made sure Castillo was left behind during the latest mission. But when his rival is kidnapped by a vicious drug lord, Castillo receives a black ops mission of his own: protect his rival's sister. And any mistakes will either result in her death…or his.
Lara Banks clearly has no interest in being protected by a military man, especially an acquaintance of her estranged brother. So why is she doing her best to drive him crazy with pure temptation? Lara insists on having her naughty way with him—over and over—but is fulfilling their fantasies worth the price?
Tawny Weber sure knows how to write a military romance!
Navy SEAL Dominic Castillo has been left behind during his team’s latest mission and he has one pain in the butt team mate to thank for that. Trained for anything, he doesn’t expect his rival to be kidnapped by a drug lord let alone for his team to send him to protect said rival’s sister. A woman who doesn’t want anything to do with her estranged brother. Used to having his way, Dominic is in for quite a challenge when he meets Lara and she refuses to follow his lead.
I’m new to Weber’s books (Thanks to Anna over at Herding Cats and Burning Soup for bringing them to my attention) but I have to say that I love her style! Tough ass military men who are accustomed to dealing with danger on a regular basis and the women who are strong enough to take them on? Yes please!
The chemistry, while instant, was colored by suspicions on Lara’s part and cynicism on Dominic’s. I liked the eventual but subtle shift from an impersonal relationship where Lara referred to Dominic by his last name, Castillo, to a more personal relationship where she started to see him as more than just a SEAL and therefore thought of him as Dominic. However, what really made this relationship work for me was how Lara wouldn’t give Dominic an inch in the beginning. Dominic is so used to women falling at his feet and going along with whatever he says that it was nice to have him struggling to “control” Lara. A man who is that over confident needs a reality check and Lara was more than willing to provide it.
While not technically a romantic suspense, A SEAL’S Fantasy did have those bad guys chasing after Lara and that did add to my overall enjoyment of the book. After all, what’s the point of having the hero be a bad ass SEAL if you’re not going to get to see him in action?
What I would have liked to have seen was some sort of reconciliation between Lara and her brother. I feel like too much was left unsaid and their childhood remained a mystery that frustrated my curious mind. I'm hoping this will be remedied in the future.
Final Verdict: So, when's the next book coming out?
