Born and raised to be an emotionless killing machine, Nathan is one of the most lethal Breed vampires in existence. A key member of the Order—an elite group of warriors charged with protecting both mortals and vampires—Nathan executes each mission with flawless precision and a total lack of mercy. Now he must pursue a powerful, hidden enemy. But Nathan’s hard discipline and training are no match for the fierce pull he feels toward a young woman he has no right to desire—a woman of wealth and high social standing who has long been promised to another Breed male, and who may also prove to be the key to rooting out Nathan’s elusive quarry.
Jordana lives a life of glittering privilege as a member of a prominent Breed family in Boston. Surrounded by fine things and fawning admirers, Jordana wants for nothing—until she crosses paths with a dark, intense warrior from the Order and finds herself swept into an impulsive, sizzling kiss that neither of them will forget. As much as she tries to deny her deep feelings for Nathan, Jordana cannot resist the craving to be near him, to break through his forbidding walls and see the man he truly is. But getting close to Nathan will thrust Jordana into a treacherous new world, forcing her to risk all she has and all she knows about herself and her past. And loving this seductive man could be the most dangerous temptation of all.
Crave the Night gave me exactly what I was hoping for!
Nathan is a trained killer. As part of a group of warrior vampires, he’s ruthless in his quest to protect both mankind and vampires against deadly enemies but nothing in his years of training has prepared him for the emotions that Jordana wakes in him. As part of the Breed elite, Jordana has lived a somewhat sheltered life where she’s denied nothing. After sharing a kiss, Nathan and Jordana can’t seem to stay away from each other and the result is a passionate but dangerous relationship where a major secret is waiting to be revealed.
I’m such a big fan of this series and unlike most of my favorites, I was with this one from the very beginning. I patiently waited for each and every book in the series to be released and I can honestly say that the series is progressing in an interesting direction.
Nathan, part of the original cast of characters first made his appearance as a teenager in Deeper Than Midnight and has since made a name for himself as an Order member. All of the Breed males are intimidating but Nathan takes “intimidating” and tosses it to a whole new level. A woman would have to be out of her mind or very brave to take that male on.
I’m going to go with brave because that’s what Jordana is. She didn’t really make a big impression on me when she appeared in Edge of Dawn. I didn’t dislike her, I just didn’t really notice her. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Jordana and while the Order wants to use her to find their enemies, they end up with more information than they bargained for and she’s right in the middle of it. I didn’t know what to think of her really, she seems like the least likely to be paired up with Nathan but they really did work as a couple. They were passionate and stronger together than they are apart. Jordana brought out a more human side of Nathan and without that he would be more machine than anything.
What I’m really enjoying about this new phase in the Breed series is the fact that the women are getting a more active role in the fight between the Breed and their enemies. As much as I love a tough alpha vampire, I love a tough female even more. It began with Mira in Edge of Dawn and now there’s Carys, the daughter of Sterling Chase and Tavia, the first known Breed female. I really hope that Carys’ book is next, since up until her parents’ book, it was widely believed that the Breed was comprised solely of males. I hope that author Lara Adrian has plans for more dominant heroines who can hold their own with the males.
The plot twist that was revealed in Edge of Dawn takes a new turn in Crave the Night and I really wasn’t expecting it. It seems like a lot to take on so early in this new phase but I am very curious to see how it will play out in future books and what other surprises Lara Adrian has in store for readers. Some people may not like the new developments but I for one think it’s something different and has the potential to be extremely interesting, not to mention challenging for these characters.
Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series will leave you wanting more and Crave the Night is an excellent addition to a series that has long been a favorite of mine. The new direction of the series has me totally intrigued and fascinated. I can’t wait until the next book in the series and hope that Carys will soon have her story and of course, that my personal favorite, Tegan, will show up once in a while.
Final Verdict: Add this one to your shelves, along with the entire series if you haven't already. Nathan, Jordana and their comrades are in for one wild ride and you're not going to want to miss it!
