Release Date:

Revenge is a dish best served cold… while wearing heels.

April has just learned the real reason behind her boss’ impromptu dinner invitation. He only invited her to dinner with his colleagues to prove a point: that he can show up at an event with a plain Jane and still be considered ‘the man’. She expected better from him and had secretly hoped that one day their friendship would grow into something deeper. But her two best friends won’t let her wallow in her pain. They convince her to give Dr. Stewart a dose of his own medicine. The plan: show up at the dinner looking irresistible and prove to her boss that even nerd girls can be sexy. But first she has to replace her unattractive business suits with something sexier and more revealing. It’s time for a makeover.

Dr. Chad Stewart would never ‘really’ date his secretary. She was too good, to pure for someone as jaded as himself. It didn’t matter that he was half in love with her. But when he needed an ‘average date’ for a dinner party she was the first person he turned to. He thought his secretary was the perfect choice until he arrived to find her looking like his wildest fantasy. But now she knows the real reason for his invite and he can see in her eyes how hurt she is.

Can Chad convince her to forgive him for hurting her or will she walk out of his life… taking his heart with her?

Can I get a point for geeky girls hiding their inner goddesses?

The Makeover has its ups and downs and for awhile I had mixed feelings about it. I still do but overall it's a good, fun, silly book and has a truly geeky female lead character. Why is it that I can't seem to find many books where the heroine is the geeky instead of the hero?

Chad doesn't really make much of an impression. Sure he's sexy, smart and a bit of a player but really The Makeover is more April's story than his. Readers are mostly treated to April's point of view, her thoughts, her life. In fact, there are no scenes of Chad at home and very few pages are dedicated to his point of view. A little more insight into the hero of the story would have been nice but I do get that it's April's story and it is called The Makeover so that should have been a huge hint.

The only issue with The Makeover that I had was that April was just way too naive for her age. She says and does things that just made me think that she wasn't so much a geek as socially inept. It's not just her though, her two friends are ridiculously naive and not in a good way. They act like giggly middle school girls when sex is brought up and come across as virginal fools. I didn't appreciate that, nor did I like the insinuation that geek = sexually incompetent. Geek girls can be sexual dynamos too you know.

While April seems to lack a backbone through most of the book, she does have some scenes with Chad where she finds her courage and lets him have it. I wish she could have done that throughout the entire book but I'll be honest, she had guts when it really counted so I can't be too upset about that. I loved watching her put him firmly in his place without making herself look bad.

I did enjoy April's devotion to her geekier side and her unwillingness to pretend she wasn't a total geek girl. She embraced her inner geek loudly and proudly. Something all geeks should do and be able to to comfortably.

I had read Christmas Fantasy a few weeks ago and thought that The Makeover would be just as hot and sexy. It wasn't, rather, it's a sweet story with no sex but enough sexual tension to make it enjoyable.

Final Verdict: The Makeover is a fun, sweet but not steamy story. April's over the top naivety and sometimes unbelievably immature attitude and friends will annoy some readers but her geekiness and unwillingness to compromise who she is will endear her to readers as well.

About Siren Allen:

Hi, my name is Siren Allen. I’m a writer and lover of all things erotic and romantic. I reside in southern Mississippi where I write steamy romances that are guaranteed to make you blush. When I’m not listening to the characters in my head and jotting down their adventures, I am busy working as a Clinical Laboratory Technician.

I love to travel, preferably with my husband, so he can do all of the driving. I enjoy time with my family, who are just as silly as I am. I have no children…yet, wish me luck! My hobbies are reading, writing and shopping, though I hate trying on clothing. If I wasn’t a writer or a Laboratory Professional, I would probably be a Secret Agent. But that’s the beauty of being a writer; you can create your own world and be whoever you want to be. In my imaginary world, I am Queen and my siblings are my minions.
