Review: Lost in a Royal Kiss by Vanessa Kelly (novella)

Format: .mobi (provided by publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)
Release Date: November 26, 2013

With her widowed mother working long hours as governess to the royal children, Linnet St. Clare must look after her siblings and run the household. Now she must add to her worries the fate of Dominic, a poor orphan who has inspired the wrath of the king himself. Clearly Linnet has no time to consider her own desires—much less notice the attentions of a certain handsome, powerful magistrate…

Sir Anthony Tait is at a loss for how to capture Linnet’s interest. If only she would be still long enough for courting. Outright seduction seems the only answer. But will his kisses be enough to persuade her—or might Anthony have something to learn from young Dominic about matters of the heart? And in saving the boy’s future, might Anthony and Linnet at last create their own?

What a great way to both introduce long time fans to a brand new series and give new readers a chance to "sample" an author's work!

I've never read Vanessa Kelly before but I'm glad I picked this one up! Most novellas don't tackle lengthy story lines but Lost in a Royal Kiss does, and it should, given that it sets up the upcoming Renegade Royals series.

Anthony and Linnet's story doesn't start at the beginning with a first meeting but rather, in the middle of a difficult situation. Linnet is a proud and intelligent character who cares about those around her and will go to any lengths to protect them and Anthony is a patient and kind man who, like Linnet instinctively protects those who cannot do it for themselves. Their relationship develops quickly after being at a standstill for quite some time. Even with the speedy courtship, it doesn't feel rushed, there was just enough background information given about Anthony and Linnet that made up for the lack of actual scenes.

Lost in a Royal Kiss was a quick, fun read that did it's job thoroughly, it engaged me with the plot, left me hungry for more from author Vanessa Kelly and made me curious about the Renegade Royals series. So if you're new to Vanessa Kelly's work then pick up Lost in a Royal Kiss and give it a try!
