One bite was all it took.
It’s that time of year again. Alyssa Blakely is busy writing in her fantasy diary, filling it with all her forbidden, sexual fantasies. The star: her very sexy boss, Devin Jordan. Too bad for her, he’s never given her a second glance.
Or so she thought…
After a steamy kiss under the mistletoe and a night of wild sex, Alyssa has the bite to prove just how wrong she was.
Devin Jordan has found his mate. The only problem: she’s human. He’s not. Can he prove to her that his inner beast can be both naughty and nice? Or will her fear of the unknown keep him from claiming her?
I finally made time to buy and read Christmas Fantasy by Siren Allen and I'm so glad I did! I know the holidays have already come and gone but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying this story. At around 126 pages, it's not a full length novel but it didn't feel like a "half story" either. I was very pleased with the length and the pacing of the story. It was fun, erotic and addictive.
Though it's a paranormal romance, the biggest paranormal element is Devin, the story's hero, who has secretly lusted after his secretary Alyssa for quite some time. On the outside Devin seems like all cocky confidence and intelligence but what I really liked about him was the inner doubts he had about himself and the vulnerability he displays at the oddest times. He's a dangerous creature but he's so vulnerable when it comes to Alyssa that you can't help but love him.
Alyssa made me laugh out loud several times. I loved the idea of a fantasy diary though I don't think I'd be brave enough to write one myself so I've got to give her props for having the guts to have one. She has moments where she laments her sad sex life and she could have come across as pathetic and whiny but she didn't. Instead I sympathized with the fact that she couldn't find someone who was man enough to give her what she wanted. Hey, I'm all for sexual equality for women and I love a female character who knows what she wants sexually and isn't afraid to instigate sex! Poor thing kept getting duds though so I really felt for her, even as I kind of snickered at her predicament.
Devin and Alyssa certainly had that unfulfilled lust vibe going on for a while and it made Christmas Fantasy more interesting with them wanting each other but thinking the other isn't interested. Once they move past the "unfulfilled" part though they certainly make up for lost time! Their scenes are erotic and well written, definitely satisfying for readers who like their sex scenes on the hot and frequent side.
Some of the scenes and dialogue were a little silly but it's a light hearted, paranormal romance so it totally fit the book. I loved how Siren Allen opened up Devin's paranormal world with the appearance of two surprise characters who had a connection to Devin that he didn't know about. I hope they get their own stories too because they were interesting.
Overall I enjoyed Christmas Fantasy very much and I hope that she'll make it part of a series because I can definitely see myself becoming a big fan.
