Halloween Giveaway!

I envy all of you who are dressing up this year. I LOVE Halloween, it's one of my favorite days of the year. Instead of sulking though, I am going to give away a paranormal romance to one lucky commenter! Just fill out the entry form and you're in! This giveaway is only open TODAY so don't wait! Up for grabs is a KINDLE copy of Her Guardian Angel by Felicity Heaton. Tell me what you would chose if you could dress as anything for Halloween (I would probably dress up in a costume from a time period rather than a character. It would probably be between Regency England, Georgian England and 1920's America)!

Happy Halloween every one! Stay safe and have fun!

A guardian angel dedicated to his duty, Marcus will do whatever Heaven asks of him, but even his loyalty has its limits. When his superior orders him to gain Amelia’s trust through seduction, Marcus starts to question his mission and his feelings for the beautiful woman he has watched over since her birth.

Amelia has gone from one bad relationship to another, so when a gorgeous guy moves in next door looking like Mr Right, she hopes he doesn’t turn out to be another black knight in disguise. But there’s more to Marcus than meets the eye, and when he rescues her from three demonic men, Amelia is thrust into his nightmarish world—a world where God and the Devil exist, and only one angel can save her from death—Marcus, the angel she’s falling in love with.

On the run from demonic angels and the Devil himself, aided by Marcus’s angel friends and their amazing women, fighting for survival against the odds, Marcus and Amelia discover a love that will last forever.

A love so strong it will shake Heaven and Hell.

Book Blind Date #39

Book Blind Date is something that Danielle from Book Whore Blog and I decided to start after seeing a Facebook post on the Lawrence Public Library Page about a book blind date. This really got us thinking, what if the only thing you new about a book was what the story was about? No character names, no pretty covers to suck you in.

Here's how it works, you know the old saying never judge a book by its cover? Well you won't be able to, for this meme you are going to decide which book you would go on a "date" with based on the synopsis. Names and identifying phrases are removed just to make things fair. The only rule is: No Googling the synopsis, you have to pick a "date" based on what you read below.

Last Week's Blind Dates:

Blind Date #1
It’s the roaring twenties, and San Francisco is a hotbed of illegal boozing, raw lust, and black magic. The fog-covered Bay Area can be an intoxicating scene, particularly when you specialize in spirits…

A*** P***** performs a spirit medium show onstage at Chinatown’s illustrious Gris-Gris speakeasy. However, her ability to summon (and expel) the dead is more than just an act.

W***** M******** is a notorious bootlegger who’s more comfortable with guns than ghosts—unfortunately for him, he’s the recent target of a malevolent hex that renders him a magnet for hauntings. After A***’s supernatural assistance is enlisted to banish the ghosts, her spirit-chilled aura heats up as the charming bootlegger casts a different sort of spell on her...

On the hunt for the curseworker responsible for the hex, A*** and W***** become drunk on passion. And the closer they become, the more they realize they have ghosts of their own to exorcise…

Blind Date #2
Born and raised to be an emotionless killing machine, N***** is one of the most lethal Breed vampires in existence. A key member of the Order—an elite group of warriors charged with protecting both mortals and vampires—N***** executes each mission with flawless precision and a total lack of mercy. Now he must pursue a powerful, hidden enemy. But N*****’s hard discipline and training are no match for the fierce pull he feels toward a young woman he has no right to desire—a woman of wealth and high social standing who has long been promised to another Breed male, and who may also prove to be the key to rooting out N*****’s elusive quarry.

J****** lives a life of glittering privilege as a member of a prominent Breed family in Boston. Surrounded by fine things and fawning admirers, J****** wants for nothing—until she crosses paths with a dark, intense warrior from the Order and finds herself swept into an impulsive, sizzling kiss that neither of them will forget. As much as she tries to deny her deep feelings for N*****, J****** cannot resist the craving to be near him, to break through his forbidding walls and see the man he truly is. But getting close to N***** will thrust J****** into a treacherous new world, forcing her to risk all she has and all she knows about herself and her past. And loving this seductive man could be the most dangerous temptation of all.

She never expected to turn on the dance floor and find Blake Kennedy’s gaze holding her body captive.

Review: Perilous Promises by Christi Williams

Format: pdf (Provided by author in exchange for an honest review)
Release Date:

She can survive anything except the men who love her.

Perris Dalton doesn’t need a man. She left southwest Wyoming broken, so transformed by fighting cancer even her big hunk of a lawman couldn’t make love to her. Now she’s back.
Her new job is to mitigate conflicts with raptors at a power plant’s coal mine. There’s no reason for her path to cross her ex-husband’s. But when an environmental demonstration inexplicably centers in on her, Sheriff Noah Dalton steps in, confident he can win back the woman who once walked out on him.

As the demonstration spirals into personal attacks, Noah, Perris’s father the sheep rancher, and her brother the college student, hatch a secret plot to protect her.
In an epic contest of wills with a lone woman survivor used to solving her own problems, and three Western heroes just as determined to save her, all hell starts to break loose.

Rarely do I read romance novels with heavy, realistic or even controversial themes, they're not my style. However Christi Williams' Perilous Promises was a book I made an exception for. Perilous Promises is the story of a woman named Perris's journey after breast cancer, who she wants to be, and the painful, but necessary decision to divorce her loving but suffocating husband (and love of her life), Noah. It shows that though people may have the best intentions, their actions might in fact, have the opposite result.

Waiting on Wednesday: Dark Witch

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is: Dark Witch by Nora Roberts.

Nora was the first romance author I fell in love with. I love all her early books, the MacGregors and the Stanislaskis are among my favorites. Sadly the last book of hers I read was Valley of Silence (Circle Trilogy) and while a lot of people I talked to didn't like it, I loved it. I wasn't too thrilled with her Bride Quartet series and kind of lost interest but this up coming series looks to be a good one and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland.

County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations—and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives.

When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself—and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive…

This week's TOP OFF TUESDAY selection is: Logan's Acadian Wolves by Kym Grosso. I read this one for a review that should be up on I Smell Sheep in the near future.

Intrigued by the mysterious human, the commanding Alpha is determined to elicit all of her secrets, including her deepest fantasies. Succumbing to desire, she learns to trust her Alpha, discovering what it means to be wolf.

Passion and mystery on the bayou stirs Logan’s wolf, demanding he claim his mate. Yet Wynter’s a distraction he can’t afford when his priority is to lead his new pack. Will Logan surrender to the uncontrollable need to claim Wynter as his mate? And will he be able to keep her alive, finding the killer who threatens the Acadian Wolves?

Read Pink in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness!

As some of you may know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month so when I was asked if I wanted to do a spotlight on the Penguin Group's Read Pink Campaign I immediately said yes.

You see, this is personal for me. My aunt is a breast cancer survivor. She's been cancer free for about 10 years now but I still remember it as if it were yesterday. That's something you never forget, no matter how many years go by and it's frightening how many women are predicted to die from this disease this year alone!

So it's very important for all of us, men and women to do what we can to prevent as many deaths as possible. For starters, educate yourself. There are some fantastic resources out there, like The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Then there's early detection through exams. It is so important to not only do self exams but to have them done by health professionals, and that includes mammograms!

It's also important for businesses to get involved and help raise money for the research to end, not only breast cancer but all other illnesses that have the power to take our loved ones from us.

So huge props to The Penguin Group for raising awareness and funds again this year!

Review: Duke of Midnight by Elizabeth Hoyt

Format: .mobi (Purchased)
Release Date: October 15, 2013

WHEN A MASKED MAN . . .
Twenty years ago Maximus Batten witnessed the brutal murders of his parents. Now the autocratic Duke of Wakefield, he spends his days ruling Parliament. But by night, disguised as the Ghost of St. Giles, he prowls the grim alleys of St. Giles, ever on the hunt for the murderer. One night he finds a fiery woman who meets him toe-to-toe—and won’t back down…

MEETS HIS MATCH . . .
Artemis Greaves toils as a lady’s companion, but hiding beneath the plain brown serge of her dress is the heart of a huntress. When the Ghost of St. Giles rescues her from footpads she recognizes a kindred spirit—and is intrigued. She’s even more intrigued when she realizes who exactly the notorious Ghost is by day…

DESIRE IGNITES A DANGEROUS PASSION
Artemis makes a bold move: she demands that Maximus use his influence to free her imprisoned brother—or she will expose him as the Ghost. But blackmailing a powerful duke isn’t without risks. Now that she has the tiger by the tail, can she withstand his ire—or the temptation of his embrace?

Wow. What a way to bring the final Ghost of St. Giles to his happy ending. I didn't think Elizabeth Hoyt could top herself with Duke of Midnight but she absolutely did!

Maximus is perfect as the brooding, tortured hero. Shaped by tragedy and motivated by vengeance, he was the one who most resembled a Georgian Era version of Batman. While all three Ghosts had their demons, Maximus was definitely the darkest incarnation of the Ghost. Whereas the first Ghost was motivated by a true desire to help those who were helpless and the second Ghost was too much an honorable man to ignore injustice, Maximus carries around a darkness in him that has almost completely consumed him, he makes his role as the Ghost of St. Giles personal.

Review & Giveaway: The Right Temptation by Diane Escalera

Format: mobi (provided by author in exchange for an honest review)
Release Date: June 3, 2013

Can a childhood crush mature into the real thing? Kayla Martinez has recently landed an RN position at a prestigious hospital in her hometown. The new job is everything she's hoped for, especially when one hot specimen shows up in the ER. She hasn't seen her childhood crush in years, and considering how much hotter he's gotten over time, she almost ends up needing resuscitation.

The last thing Nico LaCosta needs is a broken arm. Now his pal's kid sister wants to soothe his pain, but he'd rather keep his distance so her big brother doesn't break his other arm. Kayla's no child anymore, though. She's one hot-blooded woman, determined to remind him of a mind-blowing kiss back when they were teenagers. Leave it to Kayla to drop by his house unannounced and play Nurse Seductive.

A guy has to follow the buddy code, or face the consequences. Still, sometimes giving in to temptation is worth it...

The Right Temptation is a spicy novella that seems longer than it actually is. It's a flirty, light hearted story that will make you smile at some parts and fan yourself at others.

Kayla Martinez has almost everything she could ever dream of, she's an independent woman, she just landed a job as a Registered Nurse in a prominent hospital and is saving up to get her own place. The only thing she doesn't have is the man she's always loved. Her brother's friend Nico LaCosta. When Nico ends up as a patient at the hospital she works in, Kayla can't believe her luck. She decides then and there that she's going to go after what she wants. What ensues is a passionate weekend and a once in a lifetime chance to find love.

Go Kayla! So nice to see a woman be the pursuer without coming off as a stalker (though she does call herself one) or a ditzy bimbo. She seems to know what buttons to push on Nico, how far to take her teasing and how to get his attention and interest focused on her. I've got to admire a character like that. She isn't shallow or petty, she's smart, focused and determined.

Most of The Right Temptation takes place over one weekend but towards the end it fast forwards a few days and since it is a novella, the story is simple but steamy. While the sex scenes aren't explicit, they're still pretty hot. Most of the descriptions come from the sexual tension, the teasing, the almost-but-not-qute-ready-to-have-sex scenes. There's a pretty steamy makeout session that has me rethinking the benefits of a swing and a pool.

For a sexy read with a hot Latin lover, be sure to pick up a copy of The Right Temptation by Diane Escalera. I've added this author's books to my "Must Read Again" list.

Waiting on Wednesday: Have a little faith will ya?

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is: Good Faith by Liz Crowe

I'm not going to lie, Liz's books are not for the faint of heart or the easily offended. There's so much more to her books than what is offered on the blurbs. Her Stewart Realty series is controversial at times, but no less engaging. Next month, the series comes to an end with the final book, Good Faith. The cover reveal was yesterday and I honestly cannot wait to read this book. If I've got you curious, go ahead and ask me about my experiences with Liz's books, I promise you I'll be 100% honest with what I tell you.

Strong personalities—volatile marriages—stressful careers—conflicting goals—difficult children.

Contemporary challenges facing close-knit families form the crucible that forges a new generation.

Brandis, Gabriel, Blair and Lillian emerge from the entanglement of their parents’ longstanding emotional connections, but one’s star will burn brighter – and hotter – than the others.

With a personality that consumes everyone and everything in its path, Brandis Gordon struggles to maintain control as he ricochets between wild success and miserable failure. His life proves how even the strongest relationships can be strangled by the ties that bind.

Brandis and Gabe Frietag are as close as any brothers, bound by both loyalty and fierce rivalry. The strength of their ultimate alliance is tested time and again by Brandis’ choices.

Companions from birth, Blair Frietag and Lillian Robinson share loner tendencies, but come to rely on each other through adolescence. As they mature, both are forced to confront their feelings for the men they knew as boys.

Somewhere between the tangle of good memories and bad, independence and addiction, optimism and despair, the intertwined destinies of the new generation finally collide, leaving some stronger, others broken, but none unscathed.

As a chronicle of three families navigating the minefields of teen years into the turbulence of young adulthood, Good Faith holds up a literary mirror to contemporary life with joys and temptations unflinchingly reflected. Its fresh, real-life voice portrays the sheer volatility of human nature, complete with the hopes, dreams, and unexpected setbacks of marriage, parenthood and “coming of age.”

Cover Reveal: Good Faith by Liz Crowe (Excerpt + Awesome Giveaway)

This is actually much more than a cover reveal to be honest. You all have heard me talk about Liz Crowe's books before and I even kicked off my "Favorite Author of the Month" giveaways with Liz (You can see why she's one of my favorites and the only author of "Real Life Romance" I'll read here). Not only do you have my opinion on Liz's writing, but the blurb from her upcoming book, Good Faith, a more detailed synopsis, an excerpt from Good Faith for your reading enjoyment AND a great giveaway. See how great Liz and Tri-Destiny Publishing are? They want to give you as much information as they can so you know exactly what you're getting with this book!

It's been over a year since the first book in the Stewart Realty series, Floor Time was released and I honestly can't believe we're already at the last. The Gordons, The Frietags and The Robinsons have hit amazing highs and devastating lows that any one can relate to. While their stories have by no means finished, now the spotlight is on their children, who, just like their parents, have some tough choices and difficult situations ahead of them.

Good Faith will be different than previous books yet will still have Liz Crowe's signature style. Part "Coming of Age" story and part contemporary fiction, I'm absolutely certain that while Good Faith won't follow any of the usual guidelines, it WILL be among one of the most brutally honest, emotionally engaging books ever written.

How can I be certain?

Because that's what Liz Crowe writes. Real life, real problems. She drives home the fact that life is what we make of it and it isn't always sunshine and roses. Nor is our happy ending reached just by saying "I Love You." A relationship takes work, it takes dedication and it will always be tested so long as both parties are involved. That's what you get in a Liz Crowe book, and I am anxious to see what direction the children of these characters will go, but I also just want to visit with Jack, Sara and the rest of the gang again. Something tells me that the cover for Good Faith is hinting that I'll need a drink before, during and after I read it.

Good Faith. The final book in the Stewart Realty series by Liz Crowe will be available November 14. Read on for more information on what is sure to be an unforgettable ending to an amazing series, as well as an awesome giveaway.

Book Blind Date #37

Desperate to escape his mother’s matchmaking, V****** H***, Viscount D*******, flees to a remote country village. But even there, another marital trap is sprung. So when Miss S***** F**’s intervention on his behalf finds her unceremoniously booted from her guardian’s home, V****** is compelled to act. He may have been blinded in battle, but he can see a solution to both their problems: marriage.

At first, quiet, unassuming S***** rejects V******’s proposal. But when such a gloriously handsome man persuades her that he needs a wife of his own choosing as much as she needs protection from destitution, she agrees. Her alternative is too dreadful to contemplate. But how can an all-consuming fire burn from such a cold arrangement? As friendship and camaraderie lead to sweet seduction and erotic pleasure, dare they believe a bargain born of desperation might lead them both to a love destined to be?

Blind Date #2

L******* D*****, the notorious Duke of V******, must wed quickly and nobly—and his choices, alas, are few. The Duke of Montague's daughter, E******, is exquisitely beautiful and fiercely intelligent. V****** betroths himself to her without further ado.

After all, no other woman really qualifies. L******, the outspoken daughter of the Duke of Gilner, cares nothing for clothing or decorum. She's engaged to another man, and doesn't give a fig for status or title. Half the ton believes L****** mad—and V****** is inclined to agree.

Torn between logic and passion, between intelligence and imagination, V****** finds himself drawn to the very edge of impropriety. But it is not until he's in a duel to the death, fighting for the reputation of the woman he loves, that V****** finally realizes that the greatest risk may not be in the dueling field . . .

But in the bedroom. And the heart.

Each Monday you can join in and set up your own book blind date. Just link back to this blog and Danielle's blog. To join in just try the following.

1. Select a 2 books to be the "blind dates"

2. Set them up without the covers so readers can pick without ever seeing the beauty of the cover.

3. Star out the names. **** That way if readers have heard of the characters they aren't prejudice.

4. Link up each Monday. And post the cover to your previous weeks blind dates.

5. Join in and select which blind date you would choose in others match ups.

Review: Ravenous by Eden Summers

Format: .mobi (purchased)
Release Date: August 1, 2013

Erin McDonald likes her simple life in her small town: no drama, no fuss, no uncertainty...until Jesse Hackett breezes back into town. Erin never quite got over how he left for the bright lights of the big city, and took her heart with him.

Jesse never regretted his decision to leave small town life behind and chase his big city dreams, but he’s always regretted leaving Erin behind. No woman has ever compared, and once he convinces Erin to let him touch her again, he’s never going to let her go.

Sparks fly and fires are rekindled, but the basic divide still remains: what really matters in life — location or love?

Another fun, sexy novella by Eden Summers! The title Ravenous definitely describes the main characters in this book. From the very first page it was clear that Jesse and Erin couldn't keep their hands off each other for long. Their previous relationship ended abruptly but never fizzled out and the chemistry was still there between them even years after they last saw each other. There's a lot of history between these two characters and they do rehash it but not in a way that would bore a reader or take attention away from the present situation between them.

Review: Hotshot by Julie Garwood

Format: .mobi (provided by publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)
Release Date: August 6, 2013

Peyton Lockhart and her sisters have inherited Bishop’s Cove, a small, luxurious oceanfront resort, but it comes with a condition: The girls must run the resort for one year and show a profit—only then will they own it.

A graduate of a prestigious French culinary school, Peyton has just lost her job as a food critic. Out of work and in a bad place personally, a year doing something completely different sounds wonderful.

There are countless challenges and too many people who want to stop the sisters from succeeding. Among them are Peyton’s contentious cousins, who are outraged that they didn’t inherit the resort, as well as a powerful group of land developers who have been eyeing the coveted beachfront property.

It’s soon apparent to Peyton that their efforts are being sabotaged, but she refuses to let the threats scare her—until she’s nearly killed. She calls on her childhood friend and protector, Finn MacBain, now with the FBI, and asks for his help. He saved her life once; he can do it again.

The blurb really doesn't give readers a good enough glimpse of what kind of story Hotshot really is. It doesn't even give the hero, Finn, enough of a description to get readers interested in him!

But let's just set that aside in favor of the actual story.

I've never read Julie Garwood before and while Hotshot didn't exactly fire up my Kindle it did put the author on my radar and after speaking to a few fans I have been assured that her historical romances are not to be missed.
