My Favorite Author: Joan Swan + Giveaway

undefined
Welcome! This is a new, monthly feature here on the blog. Every month I talk about one of the authors on my list of "Favorites." I'll tell you why they're one of my favorites and in some cases, how I discovered them. Then, as my gift to you, I will give you a chance to win your choice of e-book by that month's author. At the end of the month I will chose one person and they will get to pick what book they'd like. So read on and don't forget to fill out the rafflecopter form at the end!

This month's author is Joan Swan, a relatively new author but no less amazing. I credit my friend Rachel with bringing Joan's work to my attention. Rachel suggested I read Fever back in May 2012 because it was a contemporary romance with just a hint of the paranormal in it. When I read the blurb I was definitely intrigued. A convicted murderer on the run? How the heck was the author going to make me like and cheer this character on? Would the heroine be someone tough, smart, funny and caring? Or would she annoy me to the point where I declared her TSTL (Too Stupid Too Live) and give up on the book entirely? Would this be a sexy romance or one that had those annoying "fade to black" moments, or worse, be nothing more than verbal porn?

Well not only did I root for Teague and his heroine Alyssa and find the level of sexy just right, Joan Swan introduced me to a rowdy bunch of former firefighters who were struggling to find answers to a chemical blast that left them forever altered. I instantly liked every character, but fell head over heels in love with Luke Ransom.

Imagine how excited I was to find out Luke was the hero in Joan's second book in the series. Well, multiply that times 100 and that's how over the moon I was to be able to read and review an ARC for my blog (which was still very new at the time). Blaze didn't disappoint and if I hadn't already been in love with Luke I would have fallen in no time. Joan also gave readers a little more information on the mystery of the blast as well as more insight to the often hilarious relationship between Luke and his friends, including the very popular Mitch Foster, the brother of Alyssa from Fever.

Fast forward to today and I am happily immersed in an ARC copy of Rush, the third book in the series. I'm not going to spoil anything but do yourself a favor and pre-order the book if you haven't already.

Joan is a busy lady though, aside from her Phoenix Rising series, she is also the indie author of Intimate Enemies, book one in her Covert Affairs series which take place along the U.S./Mexico border. So if you're a romantic suspense fan, that's definitely the series for you. This series has made me brush up on my Spanish and has given my crazy family a chance to share their four letter words and insults for whenever she needs them.

I can't say enough nice things about Joan Swan. As a member of her street team I have found that she's accessible to her fans, easy to talk to, fun, sweet and just an all around nice person. Instead of leaving her street team to someone else to run, she treats it more like a place for all of us to come together and chat with her and with each other. At any given time Joan pops in to talk about her latest WIP, to ask our opinions or just to say "Hi, I'm still alive." I have to say that makes her less intimidating for a shy person like myself and I feel very comfortable in that street team.

Joan Swan definitely fits in on my list of "Absolute Favorite Authors" and I've been lucky enough to be able to cross her name off of my list of authors I'd love to have a signed book from. Maybe one day I'll get to meet her in person too, though I'd probably be speechless, cause you know, authors are my rock stars.

As with all my favorite authors, I have to say thank you for sharing your stories with all of us book worms. Our worlds would be very dull without people like you to entertain us.

  1. I would definitely pick Fever. I finished Intimate Enemies about 2 weeks ago. I hadn't read anything by Joan before and I must say I was completely won over. I just loved it.
