Undercover mercenary Trace Rivers loves the adrenaline rush of a well-planned mission. First he'll earn the trust of corrupt businessman Murray Coburn, then gather the proof he needs to shut down the man's dirty smuggling operation. It's a perfect scheme—until Coburn's long-lost daughter saunters in with her own deadly plan for revenge.
With a smile like an angel and fire in her eyes, Priscilla Patterson isn't who she seems to be. But neither is the gorgeous bodyguard who ignites all her senses. Joining forces to plot Coburn's downfall, Priss and Trace must fight the undeniable heat between them. For one wrong move, one lingering embrace, will expose them to the wrath of a merciless opponent….
So far, so good.
The second book in Lori Foster's Men of Honor series is certainly hotter than the first, with Trace Rivers taking center stage as the hero. Working undercover, Trace is trying to bring down Murray Coburn, a cunning man who deals in human trafficking. Trace is cool, calm and dead serious about bringing this guy down, unfortunately there's an unfortunate development. Murray's long lost daughter has shown up with an agenda of her own.
Priscilla Patterson has her own reasons for wanting to take Murray down but she didn't count on having to take on his bodyguard too. Something tells her Trace isn't one of the bad guys and that's great because she's desperately attracted to him despite the circumstances. It's a dangerous game they're playing and soon enough, Murray begins to suspect that there's more to both Trace and Priscilla than meets the eye.
From the hero, to the secondary characters, all of them were interesting. Even the villains were good at being bad! Murray was disgusting but it was his playmate Helene that really made my skin crawl. That woman was nuts, ruthless and diabolical! She was more dangerous than Murray and all his associates combined!
Then there's Jackson Savor, Trace's friend and another of those yummy honorable men. Jackson's not as serious as Trace or Dare. He's gorgeous sure, but he's a smart ass to a fault and funny as hell. His scenes were so entertaining that when I found out he had his own book, I literally squealed with delight.
The story is dramatic but not over done, there's just enough excitement to keep a reader interested yet the book never detours from what it really is, a romance novel.
Everything wraps up in such a nice package with this book, it's exciting, passionate and just plain old fun. I'm really loving author Lori Foster's style and the way her characters come to life. I can't wait to get to Jackson's book!
