Hi everyone! Today I have author AmyLynn Bright on the blog answering a few of my pesky questions (kidding) and she's graciously giving one lucky person an e-book copy of Miss Goldsleigh's Secret which I reviewed here. So I hope you'll stay and see what AmyLynn has to say and of course, enter the giveaway!
Amylynn read her first romance novel in 2008 after being a lifelong literary snob. By the time she was done, she was hooked. Inspired, she challenged herself to write an entire manuscript from start to finish. Lady Belling’s Secret became the first in a three series set.
She is an Arizona native and lives in the same house her husband owned before they were married. Amylynn fears she will never call another state home unless someone tells her husband there are forty nine others to choose from. In reality, she’d settle for a walk-in closet.
Her family consists of the aforementioned husband, two beautiful children, two dogs, two cats, some fish, and a hankering for a panda. She’d like it mentioned she’s never been in prison but we’ll see how that panda thing works out.
Hi Amylynn! Thank you for taking time to answer a few of my questions! I hope they're not too tiring!
Heck no! I’m game for just about anything. Hang on, let me get my iced tea. Alright….GO
Aw well, now I feel bad cause I'm not drinking anything. And I'm out of wine.
For readers who aren't familiar with you or your work, could you tell them a little about yourself and Miss Goldsleigh's Secret?
I’m a sleep deprived writer of historical romances and soon a contemporary one. I read a lot less now that I’m so busy with the Secret’s Series and kids and a husband and dogs and cats and a day job, but if I had my fantasy come true I’d wash up on a deserted island with a hammock, a crate of wine, and a waterproof trunk of books I haven’t had time to read.
Miss Goldsleigh’s Secret is the second. This story of Henry and Olivia wasn’t part of the originally conceived series, but I really fell in love with Henry when he was the rejected fiancé in Lady Belling’s Secret. The man is just too fabulous not to have his own happily ever after.
Where did you get the inspiration for the cast of Miss Goldsleigh's Secret? They're so oddly endearing!
Most of them are carry overs from Lady Belling’s Secret. One of the things I enjoy so much about reading romance series is that you really get to know the characters when they follow along from book to book. They all show up in the third book as well, which I’m still writing. I’d like to think that my characters are fun and funny, are truly connected to each other.
What had been the most rewarding part of being author so far? How about the least rewarding?
I’ve gotten fan mail! How exciting is that? Crazy! Funny thing is they keep asking the same question – when will Christian and Anna get together for their story. Sadly, that’s never going to happen. Anna’s and Christian’s relationship is entirely too sibling-like and I think it would be icky. Christian is the third book due out at the end of this year and he finds a lady who’s just perfect for him. It’s so exciting to know that people have enjoyed my books well enough to write me.
Least rewarding? I have no idea. Nothing so far, but let’s keep quiet about that, eh? The universe doesn’t need to know.
Here's hoping there won't be a "least rewarding" for you!
According to your bio, you have read quite a few romance novels so you should know what works for you and what doesn't. What is one thing that readers will never see in one of your books?
Oh my goodness! That’s scary. What the heck could that possibly be? I don’t see ever writing a Sci Fi romance because that whole world building thing is intimidating. But other than that… I don’t know. Never say never?
Just READING sci-fi can be intimidating. I've given it a go once or twice but I do get intimidated by it.
What romance authors do you like to read on your spare time?
When a Julia Quinn book comes out I’m at the bookstore waiting for them to open. I could get it electronically faster I suppose, but I still love to hold her books. I also read Rachel Gibson (contemporary) the minute she has a new one. I’m reading Gail Carriger Souless series right now. I’m behind on my TBR list…but I LOVE this series.
Ha ha, it's nice to know that authors have TBR lists and get way behind on them too. Now I don't feel too bad about my mountain, er, list.
What are you working on now?
I’m finishing up a contemporary book my agent asked for and then I have to get back to Christian’s story (Book 3 in the Secrets Series)
I'm going to have to read book 1 ASAP so I can be ready for this one :)
Is there anything else you'd like to let people know?
I blog all the time with my Sister at www.thequillsisters.com. She’s also a Regency romance writer. We’re goofy and irreverent – NOT your typical writer’s blog. We talk about our crappy day jobs and our families and our pursuit of cake and panda bears.
Ooo, sounds like fun. I'll have to drop by soon. Panda bears sound like fun.
When Henry Cavendish, Marquess of Dalton, leapt to catch the fainting woman before she hit the cobblestone, he never thought that one chivalrous act would set his well ordered life on end. His ingrained need to protect her has every bit as much to do with her enchanting beauty as it does his desire to wipe the hunted look from her startling blue eyes.
He thinks he has everything in hand, but the lady has secrets that put everything he loves at risk.
Olivia Goldsleigh just wants to live without terror, but a gunshot in the night proves things can always get worse. The beautiful and god-like Lord Dalton swears to protect her, to make the danger go away. She wants the man, the life, the family, the bliss he promises, but her secrets are certain to destroy them all.
