Professional mercenary Dare Macintosh lives by one hard and fast rule: business should never be personal. If a cause appeals to him and the price is right, he'll take the mission he's offered. But then the lovely Molly Alexander asks him to help her track down the men who'd had her kidnapped—and for the first time, Dare's tempted to combine work with pleasure.
Fiercely independent, Molly vows to trust no one until she's uncovered the truth. Could the enemy be her powerful, estranged father? The ex-fiancé who still holds a grudge? Or the not-so-shy fan of her bestselling novels? As the danger heats up around them, the only anchor Molly has is Dare himself. But what she feels for him just might be the most frightening thing of all…
Lori Foster has a new fan in me. Big time. And this is just with one book! The Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor is a series about a group of men who do whatever it takes to protect those who cannot protect themselves. When You Dare drops readers right into a rescue mission involving Dare Macintosh, a tough, mysterious man out to find his friend's sister who has been kidnapped. He tracks her to Mexico where he gets
more than he bargained for in Molly Alexander. Kidnapped for a reason, Molly has every reason to be afraid of Dare but like a great fictional female, she doesn't let it show. Determined to find out who still wants Molly out of the way and why, Dare decides to stay by her side and protect her. But what started out as "the right thing to do" quickly turns into something more.
A great beginning to a series, this book started off with plenty of action, introducing readers to the hero, Dare, and giving them a taste of what exactly these "Men of Honor" risk in order to do what no one else has the courage to do. It's also a great way to introduce a heroine, and thankfully author Lori Foster didn't disappoint with Molly. With me, character first impressions are everything and in the situation Molly was found in, it could have been so easy for the author to simply paint her as a true damsel in distress, complete with crying, whining and general uselessness. But no, instead, Molly shows readers that while she is terrified, she isn't going down without a fight and if the opportunity presents itself, she's going to get herself out. I loved that. She made a great first impression on me and maintained it throughout the whole book. To me, Molly was a kick ass woman who was more than a match for the tough as nails Dare. She could hold her own in a tough situation yet still maintain her femininity.
Dare is a walking fantasy for a person like me. He's tall, dark and handsome, courageous, dangerous to his enemies, generous AND he has dogs that he loves to bits. Way to appeal to female readers who love animals Ms. Foster! Personally, Dare checks off two of my "Must Have" qualities in a man, one is animal lover, the other has to do with his easy affection and loyalty towards his friend Chris (you'll have to read the book to understand why). Dare is a take charge guy but he doesn't run rough shod over Molly unless it has to do with her safety, so he definitely didn't cross over into the a-hole hero category that seems to be all the rage at the moment. Lori Foster found a balance between Dare's alpha personality and good old fashioned respect. He respects Molly and her independent nature and doesn't try to suffocate her.
With two personalities like Dare and Molly, there's bound to be fireworks between them, this is, but they take a while to develop into a full fledged flame. Hey remember that Dare is a gentleman and wouldn't take advantage of a woman who was kidnapped, no matter how she tempts him. However, once he's sure that Molly isn't going to break from her experience, the tension between them just sky rockets.
Definitely a fun, sexy, read, When You Dare packs a punch and keeps readers coming back for more.
